Unfortunately have to give this establishment one star but if we could, we wouldn’t even rate it that highly. ||This establishment appears to be undergoing major refurbishment - we were not aware at all of this and nor was this made clear on booking. We would not have booked if the true condition of this place had been clear. It is effectively a building site. The photographs on Booking.com do not reflect the condition of this place.||It is dirty. The public areas that one must use to access the one bedroom in use at time of our visit (seriously - we were apparently the only guests) are not only dirty but seriously dusty and even dilapidated. There was cable strung across the hallway and the public bar had areas taped off. Although food was apparently available, I know from my profession that for the establishment to have prepared any open food in the prevailing structural conditions would have constituted a major contravention of UK food hygiene law , if not an imminent risk to health. I do acknowledge however that Australian food hygiene laws may differ from UK or EU laws. ||There was no parking at the hotel despite staying on Booking.com that there was, we were obliged to park on the busy main road. ||The furniture on the verandah outside our room was dirty and fit only for the tip. There was a pair of worn socks on the corner of the sofa and dirty glasses remained uncollected on the table next to the sofa. The lock of the door to the verandah was smashed and hanging off, making it impossible to lock the door to exclude some of the noise of the road. We were incredulous that anyone would even use this area, let alone leave socks there. ||Our room had what appeared to be a newly refurbished bathroom that could have been nice, if only it had been cleaned prior to our visit; there were splatters of ?toothpaste in the mirror and the glass shelf in the bathroom had marks left on it from someone else’s toiletries. There was a brown large stain on the ceiling of our room ?rust or something worse. The door lock looked as tho someone had tried to chew his/her way out of the room, the door frame was splintered and all horizontal surfaces in the room were dusty. The one bedside light was so dim as to be pretty useless but on reflection this did mean that further horrors remained undiscovered. The curtains were thin and did not block out the light at all. This place is situated by a busy main road - without earplugs and eye masks, sleep would have been impossible. ||There was a communal kettle, fridge and microwave down the hallway but frankly they were dirty and had seen much better days. Apart from some disposable plastic cups - we didn’t touch anything else in that area. ||We left just before 8am having decided that it was probably best to remain unwashed than use the shower in the room. ||This is the worst hotel by a huge margin that we have ever stayed in. It looks like, and is, a building site and frankly is not currently fit to let out rooms. ||To say we were revolted would not be an exaggeration. The place made our flesh...
Read moreGreat food, kitchen crew were happy to rectify their mistake for sides with main meal, clean room with comfy bed & oil heater but crappy pillows, new clean bathroom with good shower pressure but one of the toilets upstairs is so small you could barely get in& close the door which was odd cause the bathroom is huge lol bins out the front of the building stink to the high heaven's...
Edit- 16/2/2025 Condition of the accommodation has gone completely downhill, the fire evacuation plan is take the back stairs only they're tied& cable tied with broken wooden steps so have fun falling down that while running for your life, no actual lock on my door that exists out to the balcony so maybe a stranger will enter while I'm sleeping who knows (how exciting!) carpet is filthy& hasn't seen a vacuum since goodness knows when, nothing wiped over or dusted in rooms, no door jam to prop the door open to let out the smell of whomever slept in it the night before&old pongy furniture, dusty dirty ceiling fans, if the mattresses aren't old& ruined the bases they lay on are so currently in a U shape while laying down writing this... Got here this afternoon & after being put in a double room with the worst mattress & base I've ever seen anywhere, I complained& was up graded to a queen room with air con but they couldn't find the key (could not find keys to numerous other rooms offered either) so was then downgraded to what I'm in right now. Hair on the sheets, marks all over the pillow cases& don't even get me started on the blankets (what looks like poop&semen stains) in more than one room I've stayed in but let it slide last time I was here. Honestly, the workers downstairs are lovely & do a great job but whoever cleans upstairs needs to be sacked! Room through Expedia is non refundable so be aware. Will never stay here again, owners should be...
Read moreSteak was grey with very light grill lines, Cutlet barely tasted like lamb and had a tang from oxidation to the first bite, Sausage was tough & had a piece of gristle, Bacon had the life cooked out of it & was dry and brittle, Couldn’t taste garlic in the garlic sauce whatsoever, A few specks of salt on some of the chips,
They didn’t even serve the food to any of us and they weren’t even busy, not even one quarter capacity.
Not worth the premium charged by a long shot that’s for sure, Will not be returning.
I cannot comprehend how they have 5 star reviews, it must be friends & family of the workers.
Edit: I forgot to mention that you have to walk up to the kitchen & ask for them to hand you your food, I watched a waiter & waitress talk for a good few minutes while my food went cold & thought i should check if that ones mine and they acted all flustered & rushed as if they were just standing there for the past few minutes doing nothing.
Considering I buy my steak from the most expensive butcher in town & a pub wants to charge the same as a damned restaurant when I can get 2 kilo's of sirloin for the same price as the mixed grille plate let alone the steak prices is beyond me, if you and your friends all chuck 5 bucks in for fuel you could go to another suburb & have a better overall experience & probably even save a few dollars.
Quite frankly I find the response outright obnoxious, the owner needs to lower the angle of their nose & realise that this is Cessnock and not Sydney, not the Gold coast,...
