Jim is a lovely old gentlemen, however, when we arrived he has just a nasty experience with some guests the day before who decided to flood the room we would be staying in. It was so bad that it came through the ceiling, However, he put us in another room. All the rooms are clean, there are are heaters, which was necessary during the time we were there as the temperatures dropped at night. The mattresses are not necessarily firm, so it would be worth checking out if you need a firm mattress. The showers were hot. In the lounge is tea & coffee, milk in the fridge & a microwave. Breakfast was hearty & filling||The unique thing about this B&B is its location which is around 15 mins from Albany. It is near the coast, some of the natural tourist features, but it is situated in the bush. If you are a birder there are lots of birds around the grounds (Jim has 7 hec) & he has a feeder, so watching the parrots while eating breakfast was fantastic. We were a bit early for Splendid Fairy Wrens. The grounds are also home to orchids, but due to the weather this year, a lot were only just coming out, but he had over 10 species in a small square. The night star was impressive, although the Milky Way was glowing you could still see the shape.||Please note: there is no lift in the B&B so if you have big heavy bags you will have to carry them up a...
Read moreJim, the host, was always keen to please. His local knowledge was very helpful and freely given. He cooked an excellent breakfast which was served in a large room looking out on to the local birdlife which Jim had attracted by an early feed.||But.. Our room number 3 was very small - little room for our suitcases, TV on top of the wardrobe. The latter was rickety to say the least and stored the spare pillow, blanket, floor mounted fan, ironing board, iron and portable heater - very little room for clothes. However, the beds were very comfortable.||||We had booked 5 months earlier and for most of our stay, there were large and comfortable rooms available. These had lounge chairs and plenty of room.||||The two lounges were large and very comfortable with an abundance of things to do, read and enjoy.||||JIm does well to single handedly look after a large house and 7 acres but you have to wonder if it is too big a job even for someone who is...
Read moreA top class bed and breakfast is an apt description of Big Grove and its loveable owner Jim. We had only one night there as it was a short visit to the Albany area, but next time I will make it longer, to just enjoy the ambiance and tranquillity of Big Grove. An Idyllic location set in natural bushland, Big Grove is an ideal place to stop and unwind and if you're an artist or writer, a great place to park for a few days to explore your creativity.||||Jim, the Bed & Breakfast host is very friendly and helpful with extensive knowledge of the history of the area. The accommodation is clean and comfortable and breakfast superb - five stars. And you can enjoy observing the natural wildlife outside as you enjoy your breakfast....
