When alone, I like to try different motels. Based on recommendations from friends living in Lithgow, I chose the Lithgow Valley motel.||By Lithgow standards the motel is inexpensive. Although the facilities that were in the room all worked okay there were two main issues that have dragged down the score I have given:||Firstly, there was a huge step up into the room from ground level. Probably around 9 inches. Unfortunately, at my age, I suffer from balance issues and I found myself having to use the door frame to pull myself into the room. See photos. The thing that was particularly annoying was that most other rooms had a step up to get into the room but not the one I was in (number 22).||The other thing that was disappointing was that there was no air conditioning in the rooms. When I first entered the room, it smelt stuffy and highly of cleaning chemicals. Admittedly the smell did get better during my overnight stay.||There was a gyro fan in the cupboard that I ended up putting on a chair to get breeze over me when trying to sleep. It wasn’t that hot for the night of my stay but a little humid. To be honest, I cannot recall when I stayed in a motel room that had no air conditioning. When talking to the owner, they said the Lithgow temperatures didn’t need air conditioning as it was usually about 18 max. Wrong! A check of BOM data shows that mid to high 20’s happened in November a bit with one day over 30. The room would be hot with the main door the only ventilation.||There was a panel heater on the wall which would be needed a lot during a Lithgow winter.||I ordered an on line breakfast which was nice and delivered on time. ||My score of 2 reflects that all things in the room worked. There was ample lighting to work by. The loss of points was due to the horrible step up into the room and the stuffiness without air conditioning.||So try the motel if you wish. Just remember you get what...
Read moreWow, what can I say. After booking this so called accomodation over a few days of the Easter break I can totally understand why this has a maximum rating of 3 pathetic stars. First and foremost there were no pillows in the room, we had to ask for some pillows and within a 20 minute argument we received some pillows. We left the next morning and I requested our room to be made up due to a little mess from Easter morning. Upon approaching the owners to ask this request before I could even say goodmorning I was hassled about having kids stay at the property. I was very much confused about why she would be at me pointing fingers about a harmless 2 year old child staying. I stated the eldest daughter had stayed with her Grandma and that we picked her up early hours so she could spend Easter with us. She flat out called us liars and requested we pay an additional $50 per child PER NIGHT. I said that won’t be happening as we only have the 2 year old staying with us. When Leaving the property to spend the day with some family I decided to call the property and talk to the manager in regards to her foul actions towards me in front of my family, let alone other customers. The female decided to hang up on me 3 times. I requested a refund for the last nights stay as we didn’t want to stay there. Upon arriving back at the accomodation both managers decided to get verbal and slam there hands on the desk, point fingers and talk down to my partner. I requested police action as we felt we were being threatened. They quickly gave us back our refund upon leaving. Oh and mind you, we were both accused of stealing a hair dryer that was never in our room to begin with and we were woken up at 6:45am Easter morning to her also screaming at the people staying next to us. Heads up. DONT...
Read moreOn the way in just after Lithgow from Sydney, you'll have to pass a rail bridge. Go no further, you're better off sheltering under that for the night. To award this establishment more than half a star would be generous. There is NO air conditioning, the heater in the room takes over an hour to generate any heat, not good for a winter night in Lithgow. But wait, there's an electric blanket! Only one side works. The room smells of dust so badly a sinus attack will stop you sleeping. Other than having 2 floor mats, only 1 bath towel for 2 prople is inadequate to say the least. Cheap Dacron pillows are ok when new, however the pillows were so USED and old they were rock hard. On waking up in the morning, which couldn't come early enough, revealed the state of cleanliness that meant we skipped our showers due to the grey flakes of skin collected in the corners against the skirting boards. I have travelled the length and breadt of Australia for...
