Humanity at its best! A couple months ago I was staying here for a week, fishing the Buckenderra Trout competition. On the first day, in the first hour of the competition, I somehow (don’t ask me how) dropped my phone into the abyss of the Eucumbene. At the time my nerves and temper got the better of me, not jumping straight in to retrieve my phone/phone wallet, containing not just my iPhone but all my cards (eftpos, Medicare, etcetera) too! Upon returning to the caravan park, after an 8km trip in my 5hp mini tinny, I had decided it was time to pack up and head back to Sydney with my ‘tail between my legs’. Without a phone my fishing in the weekend competition was useless. So, I went in to the general office to notify the owner and manager of my decision to leave, and why I had to do so. These gentleman (sorry I’m bad with names guys!) offered to drive me (in their own boats) 8km back to the very spot I had dropped my phone into the drink. Once back at this very spot, we were unable to locate where the phone/phone wallet had dropped, and without goggles/mask it was harder than finding a needle in a haystack. However, still, the kindness and compassion extended to me on that day will never be forgotten, nor will the freezing cold temperatures of the lake, and this was late November lol. After packing up all my belongings and heading to the general office to check out, I was even given enough cash by the park’s manager/administrator/owner (sorry I’m bad with names mate!) to get me back to Sydney from Eucumbene. Believe you me, I needed that money for the fuel to make it all the way back without my tank going empty! I’ll definitely be back here when the opportunity presents itself. It’s a lovely part of Eucumbene with even lovelier people that run the place! Their humanity touched me in a way that words...
Read moreA tranquil fisherman's dream. The location has variable camping and accommodation styles bound to suit your needs. While not the ideal for those seeking 5 Star, it is ideal for those seeking outdoors, walking around the lake edge, launching your boat from shore and doing a spot of shore or troll fishing. The small community spirit encourages a lovely experience. While accommodation types are catered for, other than 4 star, camping is also well catered. The Dam has not been elevated for many years however, the extra walk for those who knew the dam in the 80's, typically gives prize to a majestic Trout. The camp site will freeze and measure your fish for you. An experience you will be telling people about for most of your life. Management are helpful, accommodating and friendly. Sealed roads all the way to the gate, I would give this location a go with the family. The location is affordable to a family and will see your children able to explore the surrounds in reasonable safety, while under your watchful eye. Don't limit yourself the the location. Walk along the lake and enjoy the views and do the 4 km drive to the dam wall and pump station. Learn about the water inflow of the Dam and its outflow. Traveling to Jindabyne by road is simple with sealed roads all the way. This is a farming road as well so caution is advisable. In addition, there are cyclists on the road as it is popular with this...
Read moreI have been coming to this place since 1982. I've stayed in vans and the majority of all the cabins. I've camped for yesrs, until now I have a van. The cabins are basic but clean and now have sat dishes, which improves the tv reception. The managers are friendly and helpful if U get stuck. They have a rec room which is underutilized which is a shame. The shop is pretty well stocked with just about everything. When the fish are biting it's the best. From the bank in front of the park,or in a boat, access is good. Not so good when the water is down. However walking along the banks is good for all forms of fishing. sun rise and sets are...
