Butmaroo Station — Hotel in Bungendore

We stayed at the Stockman’s cottage and the location and cottage are really beautiful. The location is just perfect, it was so peaceful and a lovely fenced off garden for our toddler and puppy to explore. However there are some things I wish we’d known beforehand.

The webpage says pet friendly but pets aren’t allowed inside the cottage - only the garden. We weren’t informed of this until the day before checking in and if I’d known, I wouldn’t have booked it. It was a really cold weekend and we were very uncomfortable with our 3 month old puppy sleeping outside.

Secondly, it was really cold in the cottage. The cottage only has a single split system in the living and a wood fire. Due to having a toddler and asthma we didn’t want to light the fire and the split system was not at all sufficient to heat the bedrooms. I did send an email to the host in the morning requesting portable heaters but I didn’t receive a response until the late afternoon. This was partly my fault because I didn’t use the phone number provided but I assumed everyone has access to email on their mobiles. It is a working farm and I could have called but at that point we had decided to go home instead of staying the second night because we had been so uncomfortable the night before.

Butmaroo Stockman's Lodge is a large 4 BR house on a working farm. It has modern bathrooms, inside and outside eating areas, a really good kitchen and a large loungeroom. The weather wasn't kind during our visit but we still had a terrific time. We walked the farm roads and paddocks, introduced the grandkids to farm animals and did some amateur bird watching.
