We’ve all seen the famous roos-on-the-beach photos and, after a failed attempt in August (lockdown 😭), we finally made it to Cape Hillsborough! 🥳🥳
You know that feeling when places are so hyped and then it’s a let down? Well this isn’t one of those places!!! It’s amazing and there’s so much to do besides getting up at the crack of dawn to see roos on the beach!
But let’s start with the roos. You need to get up at first light and head to the beach 💯 This is the when the roos are just doing their thing. The Ranger will then head down and block off an area and scoop out some yummy food for the roos. He is like a roo whisperer. Best job ever! (Besides getting up bloody early!)
What else is there to do? Well at low tide it’s the perfect time to walk over to Wedge Island and find the semi-secret fairy pool on Orchid Rock. I might’ve broken a nail getting there but it was worth it! We had the place to ourselves 🧜🏼♀️
There are also a couple of walks in the National Park. A reasonable level of fitness is required but the views at the top are 😚👌🏽 At Turtle Lookout make sure you look down 👇🏼 we saw at least 6 turtles 🐢 in the water 😍
The views from the beach are also spectacular. The mountains rise straight up from the water and it reminds me a lot of Tahiti 😍😍
There are also some cute beachside towns nearby but I’ll cover those in a future post.
We spent an enjoyable 3 nights camping at #chntp and here’s some more info:

Read moreWe stayed in a cabin, to see the kangaroos in the morning. Well, it's perfect for that! The cabin is basic, but had everything we needed. Especially the airconditioning.
The kids enjoyed swimming in the pool and during the day and night, we were surrounded by 4 kangaroos. The was great. You just have to bring a flashlight in the night if you need to go to the toilet, you might trip over one.
The shared bathroom was fairly clean (just sand, but your close to the beach). It's spacious (easy to bring your kids in and shower them) and the shower was perfect.
But the thing I absolutely disliked were all the passive aggressive notes all over the place! Like, if you'll leave fish in the freezer, they understand you're happy to pay $100. Seriously? And oh, don't you dare entering the property unauthorised, as you'll be handed over to the police! Says the 'friendly' sign at the entrance that makes you feel most welcome (not). And when entering the pool, there are more demands. Like wearing this bright yellow paper wristband because those are the terms when to stay at this park (which you're not aware off when you book in advance, so no... I refused to wear it). And then there's an aggressive sign of all the other things you're not allowed to do. Instead of going your guests will enjoy themselves and leave a friendly reminder of not to run, etc.
The wristband is crazy. I don't want to wear a bright yellow thing around my wrist when leaving the park. Plus it's an annoying thing.
Also, a lady at the reception desk was quite rude. But logbook luckily another lady was very friendly.
But no, unless they learn to communicate with their guests, I would...
Read moreI wish I could recommend staying here. Like most people we came to see kangaroos on the beach. That experience was awesome. If you can find a way to do this without staying in a cabin, this is what I’d recommend you do.
Cabin #1
• Only one burner worked on our two-burner hob. • The vent hood and light over the hob didn’t work • It takes at least 5 minutes for any hot water to arrive • The bathroom sliding door was broken doesn’t open and close all the way • Only one washcloth in the cabin • The bed was short-sheeted. We had to remake it and discovered the sheets were the wrong size. • The mop was broken. • The lone cooking spatula was in two-pieces in the drawer (and was dirty) • The dishes, pots and pans were filthy. We had to wash everything we wanted to use. • All the kitchen utensils needed to be washed. • We had only 3 little small packs of dishwashing detergent – we wound up using most of this just getting the dishes clean enough to eat off. • No paper towels or salt or pepper. • No clock • No Wi-Fi or internet of any kind. (we had no bars on our Vodafone cells and no internet in the cabin) • The floor initially looked clean but after a couple of hours in white socks, we noticed how dirty our socks had become. This is how we discovered the mop was broken.
On the website it says the ocean front cabins are recently remodeled. If this is the remodeled one, I can’t imagine how the others are.
Our experience was further marred by very noisy neighbors. The kids were out of control and they spilled over to our veranda since theirs was full of their junk. Not the property’s fault but...
