I first heard of Coober Pedy on social media, for its underground homes When I checked on the map where it was, and realized it was on the way from Adelaide to Uluru, I decided to stop there for the night, and to do so in an underground home I checked what were the options, and Di's place quickly appeared to me as the best one I contacted her, she was super responsive, and friendly. She warned me she wouldn't be in town and so wouldn't be able to meet, but would love chat and give me a rundown on the dugouts and the town must sees, and I immediately felt I had made the right choice (to be noted, even if she is not home, and can't chat with you beforehand, she has a well made booklet waiting for you that will tell you all) When I arrived I got welcomed by a friend of hers, who helped me enjoy my time in town even more

The place is unique, for being a dugout, bringing the benefit of underground homes for the temperatures, while you still get some daylight coming in from one side It is huge, with a patio, 3 bedrooms (with comfortable beds), 2 bathrooms (one with direct access from the bedroom, the other one featuring a spa), a kitchen, a living room... It is well equipped, with lots of kitchen appliances (including fridge, microwaves, oven, burner, teapot, coffee machine, toaster), washing machine, TV, books, boardgames... Wifi works really well

By the way, I originally was gonna spend only a night there, but Di convinced me it would be better to spend another one, to spend a full day in town to explore it, and I'm so glad I did, as there's much to see: Old Timers Mine & Museum, churches (including the Serbian one), Crocodile Harry's Underground Nest, Breakaways, a kangaroo orphanage, an aboriginal art and artefacts, opal shops... Actually, in the end I would have even liked to stay a 3rd night, but it was then already booked

In short: a great town, a great home, a great host So, my recommendation, don't miss your chance, stop in Coober Pedy, book this place, and do so as soon as you can to make sure it's available for your time in town (and don't hesitate to take an...

We came to Coober Pedy to experience underground living and staying at |Di's Dugout made that experience top notch! it was easily 103F (40C) during our stay and the underground was a comfortable 73* F (23*C). Di even had the AC available for us if that was too warm. Besides the temperature difference, I was impressed with the spaciousness of the place. Two bedrooms, two baths, full kitchen, separate dining, and living room complete with a fireplace no less! We used the spa and the bbq in the screen protected outdoor part of the apartment. The place is spotlessly clean and fresh. Di has a notebook of pamphlets and menus for the different businesses in CP. It was all up to date and helpful. I would recommend staying at Di's because it will be a highlight of...

The stay at Di's Dugouts was exceptional. Some friends and I stayed here on the way up to the Territory. Di greeted us at the door, and showed us around the place. Her dugout was amazing! Lots of space, comfy beds, awesome shower, an incredibly interesting place to stay. Di was extremely helpful, even asking if she could do some shopping for us (for a small fee of course). I would recommend anyone with a large group or a couple who want extra space to stay here. If I make my way back to Coober Pedy, I'll definitely be staying here again. (We stayed at 'Di's Place', there is also another dugout called 'Dinky Di's Dugout').

This is such an amazing place to stay, definitely a big bucket list item ticked off! We rented both houses for two night and both houses were amazing! The houses were immaculate, had all the amenities and things you'd expect and the bonus was the houses being completely underground... The owner is fantastic and a wealth of knowledge of the area, she is available to help with anything you need to know around town and is great to have a yarn with... Definitely stay here if looking for a special experience Plenty of parking out front for multiple cars and big vans...
