This is a nice little campground. There are 4 fire pits with the four sites spaced nicely apart. The entire campsite is level and covered in soft grass. One site is suitable only for tents (bounded by wooden posts). Note that this site is the only one with a cooking plate over the pit. The river is a great option for families with kids. They can happily play in the shallow water, swim in the deeper water, explore along the river banks and attempt some dam-building.
There are no nearby hikes—the Big Hole and Marble Arch is around 75mins drive from the campsite and is a 12km round trip hike. It is worth the effort. Take head torches to explore the Marble Arch (cave system).
The roads north and south out of the campground are reasonable and have been maintained to prevent further erosion/collapse. They are very narrow and mostly dirt. Not too many corrugations.
Friendly bandicoots appear around the site at night. A red bellied black snake was spotted down by the river during the day.
The single drop toilet is up a small slope and was not smelly when we were there. There was no toilet paper for the 3 days we camped there. NP rangers clearly not visiting the site frequently. As a result there were a few campers turning up who hadn’t booked. Including one group with...
Read moreWinding, slow, dirt road in. Very narrow in places. Rough in sections. Suited to most vehicles types during good weather periods. Long vehicles will have their challenges in this area. Relatively steep descent into the camp ground and a steeper yet walk down stairs to the river. Water is clear and flowing as 271024. Plenty of turtles, Eels, tadpoles. Sadly didn't spot any fish. Although there's a lot of regrowth it's apparent there has been some intense bush fire damage in the area in the past. The campgrounds were acceptably clean during our visit. Sites are mostly level with only mild slopes if any. Space is limited and sites are close. Entire site is close to the road 60m and passing traffic is easily heard. While it's not super busy it's a detraction. It's a very nice spot perhaps midweek stays would be the most delightful. There is a single long drop toilet in good condition. Plenty of smokey fire pits for the ridiculous pyromaniac country that must have smoke 365 days of the year. Avoid during prolonged wet periods and bushfire...
