Family of 4, two toddlers, no pets.
This is the closest you’ll get to free camping, with toilets and a minimal fee. No more tent peg to tent peg... this place has room, and although may be booked out, you wouldn’t know it-there is so much space! We camped on a non powered site, for 7 days, over new year 19/20. Green slopes down to the river, (irrigation) it’s clear to see how much pride the managers have here. At reception, they sell things that you may have forgotten, and have a book swapping club for the readers-and of course, the best slushies ever ‘just ask Archer!’. You can use their fire pits, and they have wood available for sale at a reasonable price. Amenities are clean, showers are hot, and generally speaking, are pleasant to visit. There is a baby bath and washing machine for those interested. This new year, there were some ahem interesting characters, with foul language, a karaoke machine, strobe lights and late night party attitude. Remembering we are at a family friendly grounds, with toddlers, Dave and Fi were fabulous at handling the situations that arose, and we feel comfortable that it was also the result that they wanted. Low noise at night, no party after 1am. Perfectly understandable. We did have to shut off fires at 11pm one night, as bushfires were prevalent, and it wasn’t worth the risk. We were also evacuated at the end of our stay, but all in the name of safety. Definitely appreciate that we weren’t subjected to the fires (no phone service, so we had limited information, and had updates from Dave multiple times per day.) Thankyou so much for the fabulous hospitality, lovely park and allowing us to feel safe and comfortable in your home. We’d love to come back. Belinda and...
Read moreI'd give this review 6/5 stars if I could. One of the best family camping holidays we have had. Just wanted to say a big thank you to Dave and Fiona for making our recent 8 night stay a memorable one. Arrived on site only to find our air tent pump had packed it in. Davo went above and beyond to firstly try and fix the pump and then when that that became mission impossible he returned with an air compressor and in true Macgyver style made up a fitting and connection that worked perfectly to get the tent up and got us out of trouble. Absolute legend. Went from stress, disaster and holiday ruined to saved and happy days down at rancho relaxo. For that we will always be truly grateful.
Montana is well kept, clean, family friendly and safe. A true testament to the care, hard work and daily effort of the management. Located in an absolutely stunning location on the Macalister River. Postcard picture perfect. Kids were swimming in the river, having a ball going down the rapids in their inflatables and free to roam the site on foot or bikes without a care in the world. Just a beautiful place to camp with good access to fresh water, clean toilets and showers, ice, firepit and wood delivered to your site (and no mobile phone reception). What else do you need? Great place to just unplug, relax and get away from it all - absolute bliss. We...
Read moreWay beyond our expectations! So we were already away over Christmas and New Years and wanted to add a few more days to break up our trip home I found Montana via google. What a find Montana on the Macalister is. Fiona was incredible and went out of her way to help us get a site (unpowered but that's fine by us after all it was a last minute thing). When we arrived Dave stopped us and ask for us to "tell him about our dog". Now that's never happened before and is a very smart move! Our GSD is great with people and kids but reactive to other dogs, so Dave put us down the river away from everyone else (exactly where I would have chosen to stay). Cant say enough good stuff about this place. Get a camp fire from Dave when restrictions aren't on and kick back and enjoy! We felt the facilities were great and just couldn't stop smiling all our time here, go, just go and see for yourself. Oh and read the signs and the information, its simple. And as for the rules, to us they were all logical and not anything that we would deem excessive, just read them and treat others how you want to be treated and enjoy the nature in this impressive spot! We will defiantly be back (many others we met were repeat visitors to this amazing place). Pictures do not do it justice.. Thanks again...
