The GPS took us to the back of the motel - the first impression was not good, it didn't look like somewhere we wanted to stay. So we drove around to the front, that impression was a bit better. So we decided to go in (we had booked ahead), reception is old and dark, staff at the front very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Received our room key and directions to our room. Drove around the back, parked and walked up outside stairs to a secure door (required key fob to enter). The tally way was quite old, entering our room - it did look like some of the photos, walls freshly painted, beds looked clean and tidy. The bench tops, chairs, mini fridge all very old. The bathroom hadn't been updated at all (quite an old musty smell when the light/fan was on). Not sure if there were stains, or dirt marks around the base of the shower/floor. Did not look inviting, not a fan at all of shower curtains. Upon going to bed, realised that the highway noise was quite loud - seems that the old aluminium window didn't actually close properly! Explained the noise, and the small bugs getting in and being attracted to the lights. My older child had his shower, and in the morning reported that if I like showering with bugs the shower was perfect! The marks/stains/dirt/shower curtain had put me off - but the bugs were the clincher- no shower for me. My son reported that while in the shower, there was a live bug on the floor, then an ear wig fell on his head (perhaps out of the fan??), then another bug was crawling up his leg. Anyway - we didn't sleep too badly the beds were quite comfortable. But it's not somewhere that I would feel comfortable staying again. The price didn't really reflect the room and surrounds - we have paid this same price for much nicer, updated, modern...
Read moreWe stayed one night to break up an Adelaide to Melbourne trip home.
On arrival, we were greeted warmly (great customer service) and we had our room key quickly. Room was clean and suited our needs perfectly. We were warned by our immediate neighbours that they might get a bit rowdy and noisy, however not a peep was heard after about 10:30pm, and prior to then it was just doors, music or tv and voices. Just some truckies winding down for the weekend after a few hot days. Could not hear any road traffic either.
Parking immediately outside room (if not an upstairs room) and there was plenty of space for big vehicles such as trucks, cars with caravans etc.
We didn’t manage to check out the indoor pool, but will if we manage to make our way back someday.
Wi-fi access enabled me to successfully connect my tablet to Netflix to watch a movie before bed.
Morning pack-up of the car saw us with a vocal little visitor who casually wandered into our room (Cat) demanding some pats and attention. As we left prior to the office opening, we could not enquire about our little friend, but am assuming he/she is a regular or even an “owner” of the property. We watched him/her doing the rounds and checking on the other guests before we left.
Room was a little dated, however this was overlooked quickly, as the property and room appeared very well looked after and maintained.
After a very disappointing stay at a “high quality hotel” in Adelaide the previous night, the decision to give the Best Westlander a go was definitely a great choice and will stay again if...
Read moreIf someone is looking for a budget stay for a night or two then you can definitely look for Best Westlander Motel. About the room, we booked a deluxe one. The interiors of the room was ok (wooden interiors) which makes you feel more tired and dull after a long hike or a day in the Grampians. But if you stay indoors only for few hours then it should not be a ok. We couldn't meet anyone from the service team as we arrived late around 5.30pm. However, Des and Mandy guided us through the text messages and they were quick in answering all of your questions. Good Service. Lights, aircon, fridge, microwave everything was neat and tidy. Bathroom and toilets were clean. Plus all the essentials were enough for two days such as milk, coffee, tea. The only issue is that as its so close to the main highway, you could hear noises of big trucks passing by. Also, could hear noises from next door or from somewhere, don't know exactly from where but it was not much of a problem. Most important, the beds were good, bedsheets and pillow were clean. Also, if you looking for any eateries joint, its just 5 mins drive from Motel to Horsham city centre. You will have plenty of options there. Halls Gap and Grampians National Park is just 50 mins away from this motel. Overall had a good stay at Best...
