A few months ago we got married at OVE and we are SO glad we chose this venue! We received a prompt reply regarding our enquiry to look at the venue and Allison was very flexible with timing to have a meeting.
After having a meeting and seeing OVE our minds were made up and we had no desire to see any other venues. While waiting for the quote for our wedding day and before confirming our booking, I said to my soon-to-be husband “I don’t think we will be able to afford this place”. I was wrong. The quote was very reasonable and well within our budget (and we definitely got the full value of what we paid!). We also received a discount for a weekday wedding which was fantastic. The quote was also very customizable based on things we did/did not want to include and unlike some venues, we were not charged a flat fee that could not be altered for e.g. 100+ guests, despite only having a small number (less than 50).
Life got busy and we didn’t get a chance to even eat at the venue until a couple of weeks before the wedding. THE FOOD IS SIMPLY TO DIE FOR. We had a wonderful lunch with family and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals and drinks. Furthermore, the waitstaff were absolutely lovely.
My family and I stayed at the venue the night before and night of the wedding. My beloved fur babies (a Kelpie x and Ridgeback x) were permitted at the accommodation and OVE were extremely flexible and welcoming of our fur children. My pooches LOVED the accommodation - my big fella particularly enjoyed the fireplace (see photo!). It was very important to us that our dogs were a part of our wedding day and this was another factor in choosing OVE as our venue.
Throughout the planning stages Allison was very patient, organised and thorough with our queries - especially during the week of the wedding. She was an absolute gem and put us at complete ease. There were several little things that I need not have worried about as she had it all covered! We also had to make some changes due to the weather and with guests being unable to make it due to COVID - this was no drama at all for Allison and the OVE team and they accommodated anything we needed including any unexpected changes.
The ceremony was held at the gazebo and was absolutely perfect. The walkway down to the gazebo, the winery landscape backdrop, the lake - it was all breathtakingly beautiful and our guests were in awe. Allison and our celebrant coordinated everything and all went very smoothly. We were given a bridal platter (with gluten free accommodations for my coeliac husband) and beverages (including their delicious house-made alcoholic ginger beer). The platter was delicious and no one could stop me chowing down on chicken wings in my wedding dress! We were able to access different parts of the property for our bridal photos including by the lake, up the back of the property where there were some amazing views and bushland, vineyards which made for an amazing drone shot, the cellar for some intimate shots and a beautiful night time sky for some last minute photos of us during the reception. We felt so lucky and grateful to have all of this available to us.
Lastly, the reception ran so smoothly and we felt like we had a lot of privacy as well. The food was of course divine and the wait staff very polite and friendly. All dietary requirements were catered for which was fantastic given we had almost half of our guests being vegan, coeliac, gluten free or lactose free. The table settings, reception hall, bar area and outdoor seating for canapes were all exceptionally cosy, clean, fresh and inviting. The bar staff were also super friendly and provided exceptional service.
I think anyone will see from this review that OVE is an amazing wedding venue, place for a weekend getaway (+ dogs) and a great place for some beautiful food! Thank you to Allison and all of the OVE team for working tirelessly to provide a wonderful experience and for making our wedding day so memorable and fun!...
Read moreWe were gifted a winery tour, lunch and overnight stay here and it was a lovely way to spend our weekend. The winery tour was fairly light-touch compared to others we've done, but the young Kiwi guy who ran it was very personable and knowledgeable. He was very happy to answer questions and share his insights. We were surprised by the quality of some of the wines - they were pricey per bottle, but very good value by the glass in the restaurant. The lunch was incredible value for the $90pp (drinks extra) as listed for the banquet. The food was very good (though could have been warmer on a couple of dishes - having said that, they were under the pump with the volume of diners). We returned for dinner and both of us had the seafood platter for one - to be honest, it could easily feed two if you were also having entrees and dessert. Nearly every dish we tried here was very good, but the seafood platter was a stand-out for value. Note they also had wild-caught barramundi on the menu. I can't remember the last time I went to a restaurant and saw that fish offered up wild-caught, so that's another stand-out. I look forward to returning to try it. A storm passed through while we were at dinner and the light show was an entertaining attraction in itself. The accommodation in the Shiraz cottage was cosy, spotlessly clean but more comfortable than lux. The bedroom was a bed only - no bedsides - and a bit on the small size if you are 6'4". (I think the Cabernet cottage has a better layout for two people?) Very basic amenities in the bathroom (shower pressure was good, but temperature a bit tricky to modulate). It's worth noting there is only one small reverse-cycle aircon in the main bedroom which struggled to pump out to the main area (noting it was February, the hottest month, and humid with storms about). There is a small fireplace in the main area which would be lovely in winter. A double spa bath sits on the main deck - we didn't use this, but it would be a nice way to unwind with a view of the vines. We finished up our weekend by purchasing a half-dozen bottles of their wine - not the cheapest but definitely good quality and unique. You could confidently gift them to fellow wine lovers. In all, a relaxing weekend that's an easy drive from Brisbane and well...
Read moreAbsolutely abysmal experience dining at ocean view estate. Upon arrival it was a 15 minute wait to be shown to our table, and this was despite us booking in advance. After being seated, we waited another 20 minutes before wait staff finally decided to come and ask us for our choice of drinks. By this time we were starving so we put in our food order as well. 30 minutes later, and only 2 of our drinks had been brought out with the 3rd no where to be found. Our first entree came next, we asked about the drink and the waiter told us that she would “check up on it”, bear in mind this was a cider, it literally had to be brought from a fridge to our table. After another 20 minutes of waiting, with no food and no drink and the waiter that was “checking up on the drink” wandering around aimlessly, we asked again about the drink and our other entree, this time we were met with an eye roll and a “it’ll come out when it’s ready” response. After that kafuffle and another 40 minute wait, our mains came out, we had all ordered the same dish, but a different dish was placed in front of each of us, with two of the dish’s missing items that were clearly stated on the menu. (I have no idea how it is possible to send 3 different dishes out to a table that has ordered the exact same thing but here we are). On top of this, one of our mains was freezing cold, when we asked if it could be warmed up, we were met with another eye roll, and then a 20 minute wait before the dish was brought back. The food wasn’t even good???
All in all, I could not possibly recommend this place less. Extremely expensive, (which is absolutely fine if your food & experience is good but that isn’t this place), service is horrendous, wait times are abysmal (especially considering there was only 3 other tables, all were small). Please save your money and buy a servo pie, you will genuinely enjoy it more.
An absolute waste of a venue. The only redeeming quality is now at parties, our experience at this place is always the winner for the most garbage dining...
