Holowiliena Station was a highlight of our visit to the Flinders Ranges. We stayed two nights in the Cottage and it was perfect. The Cottage is rustic, spotlessly clean, and welcoming, with everything we needed for a very comfortable, relaxed and peaceful stay. The warmth of the fireplaces (in the lounge room and outdoors) combined with the bush setting, birdlife, and night skies was simply beautiful. Frances, Luke and family are so welcoming. Their friendliness and genuine passion for Holowiliena is infectious.
The Station Tour is not to be missed. Frances and Luke’s heart and soul is in Holowiliena and they have preserved and restored the Stations history using traditional building methods and materials. The amazing collection of historical artifacts (shown and explained by Frances during the tour) is outstanding. We learnt so much.
Luke’s skill and creativity in the Blacksmiths forge was another highlight and we feel privileged to have been able to purchase some of his work.
We cannot recommend Holowiliena Station highly enough.
We hope that when we visit next time that much needed heavy ongoing rain has fallen, the pastures are green, and sheep are happily grazing.
Thank you for sharing your history, stories, beautiful home cooking, and your station with us.

Read moreThis is a beautiful place and one of the best stays we ever have experienced. The cottage has its own view of magnificent red gums and quandongs and is separate from the homestead complex. The tour was fascinating from a historical perspective. The home produce option included beautiful freshly baked bread, cake and biscuits. We took advantage of some great walking opportunities and cooking on the campfire. Frances, Luke, Todd and Stella were welcoming. It was a privilege to watch the school of the air in operation and take up the option to join the family for a hearty meal. The cottage is at core an historic 2 room stone cottage, with more recent bathroom and kitchen additions. It was quirky in that each room opens onto the verandah, which means a few steps in the fresh air between rooms. Above all, the immersion into the Australian bush was wonderful. Thank you Frances and Luke for providing such...
Read moreWe thoroughly enjoyed Holowiliena Station. The drive to the station once we left the bitumen was even a good part of our stay with kangaroos jumping by and emus prancing gracefully along in front of us. Received a very warm welcome and a cup of tea when we arrived and had a informed chat. The accommodation very comfortable as was the bed. The kitchen is country-ish with a large fridge. We were there in winter and the heater in the kitchen was warming first thing in the morning. We walked around the station most days and had a bon fire every night. Did one of the four wheel drive tracks, it was slightly challenging and the scenery is fantastic. On the drive we stopped in a dry creek bed among the gum trees and had a picnic lunch. The stay was peaceful and quiet, we were in a world of our own, exactly what we wanted. Looking forward to going back soon. Going to send some...
