My wife and I stayed at this beautiful, secluded sanctuary of peace with our travel pals last week. The setting is tranquil and awe inspiring and my only regret is we could not stay on a few days longer. We were greeted just before arrival by the sight of an island strain of Western Grey Kangaroos grazing, slap playing and generally going about life on a part of the property near the accommodations. The first full day was an all day tour was on a 6-8 passenger van driven by a local guide who knew the islands flora, fauna, history and more. He took us first to a eucalypt area to look for various birds and koalas. Birding was first rate and we saw several koalas high in the gum trees hanging out asleep. We also had a trip and short walk to Remarkable Rocks, which live up to the name. Just a short drive away was Flinders National Park where we walked a boardwalk steps area above and down to the sea where we watched a colony of sea lions lolling about above the surf line and playing in the surf. I won’t go through the whole tour but one highlight near the end was seeing a female koala with a joey in her pouch down low enough in a eucalypt tree to allow for even phone photos. Topping off the list was the welcoming staff and owners who have you feeling like old acquaintances in short order. Plan an extra day or two to hike and explore the peninsula and beaches with kangaroos around any bend in the path.

We had the most enjoyable, carefree, relaxing time at SeaDragon lodge, even in the middle of Winter over the shortest days of the year. The Casuarina Deluxe Spa Eco-Villa provided all we could ever need and then some, with the private beach, wildlife at your doorstep (literally), local bushwalks, and attentive-from-a-distance team really just some of the cherries on top of a great holiday destination. To come back from a days hiking or exploring to a hot jacuzzi on the deck, ready for enjoying a bottle of local wine as the sun dips below the horizon, was truly a luxury worth having. We had great meals at the Penneshaw Hotel and Sorrentos and, when my fishing escapades ended in disaster, Steve slipped us some of his own King George Whiting catch for us to cook up in the villa for dinner. They were literally the best whiting I'd ever had, better than those I'd caught myself! We 100% without question recommend staying at SeaDragon for an escape on Kangaroo Island. Your body, mind, and soul will feel better for it. Thank you Steve, Gail, and the team @ SeaDragon.

Sea Dragon is located in a great spot overlooking Pink Bay. The place is going through a renovation at the moment and the main building and new rooms are fantastic. Breakfast and dinner were great and there is a limited lunch menu also available. All the staff were super friendly and the tour guides - Pauly, Paul and Adam - were all fantastic, very knowledgeable and passionate about Kangaroo Island. The full day tour is a highlight and takes you to multiple points across the island. Other activities include honey tasting, gin tasting, a tour of the lighthouse and sheep shearing - all of which were quite interesting. Should you opt for the wine tasting, I’d suggest that you ask for a recommendation from the staff and seek another option to Dudley wines. While the setting and views are great, the wines themselves were not that impressive. You will encounter an endless number of kangaroos on the property during your stay which only adds to the experience. Highly recommended!

We arrived at Kangaroo Island by plane and we were met by Rodger (Chile) at the airport. He was very welcoming and explained a bit about the island and that we had approx 1 hour drive to the property.|On arrival at the property we were greeted by Pamela(Chile) who offered us a welcome drink and explained all about the property and our itinerary while there. From the moment you arrive you just start to relax. We were staying 3 nights so we were able to avail of all what was on offer. The property is in a beautiful scenic position, elevated overlooking the sea and the coastline. Perfect|We were booked in for breakfast and dinner. Lunch was available for an extra charge. The selection and quality of food was amazing. 5 star.||We were assigned room/ house No. 1.| Even though i think this is the furthest from the main building it was only a short walk and it was beautiful seeing the Kangaroos etc just resting in the shade of the trees as we went back and forth. the room was perfect. It had tea / coffee making facilities , a fridge with fresh water, beautiful comfortable bed, well equipped bathroom with large shower. We genuinely could not have asked for anything more||On the first day we got to go to the beach for a swim. It is a bit of a climb down/ back up but it was so worth it.| We also got to do the Kangaroo experience with Tomas (France). They do not encourage feeding the animals as they are living in their natural habitat but every evening they put out fresh water near the reception building for the Kangaroos so that the guests can get to see them up close and were given lots of interesting information. |While here we also did local Gin tasting with Jasmine (UK), This was very interesting especially since i dont normally drink. Ha, Ha. She had great knowledge and was very engaging. Jasmine also does local honey tasting.|Another experience was sheep shearing at Rob Howards Farm. |We did a full day tour all around the island with Adam which was amazing as Adam is a local and can spot an animal or bird from a mile away. He is also great fun. This trip included a picnic lunch.|Each evening at dinner Leo from guest services checked in with each group to see how our day had been and if there was anything he could do.|The above mentioned staff would also serve us dinner so it felt like a family affair. There was also another young couple also who I cannot remember their names ( they were engaged). I cannot Praise and Thank these young people enough. They are such a huge asset to Sea Dragons. I am sure there are many more staff behind the scenes that I owe many thanks to for making our visit so memorable.|I know this seems a long reveiw but believe me when i say this is the short version (ha ha)|Finally i have to mention "Jane" " the manager. Such a lovely lady. Always there in the background, everything running so smoothly and calmly.|On our final day we had a little hic up with electricity, we had none at our house. Not a big deal as we were leaving later that day anyway and all meals are at the main reception building.| On reporting this , immediately maintainence were sent to fix it and we were moved/ upgraded to the most amazing suite bungalow with full kitchen, huge living area, double sea veiw balcony, it even had a free standing bath on it. Jane just couldnt do enough for us. We spent our final day in the lap of luxury.| There is a beautiful vibe about this place, the staff are like family and everyone seems to enjoy what they do. This translates to the guests feeling relaxed and included.| If I have forgotten anything or anyone i apologise but THANK YOU ALL for making our trip to Sea Dragons so special. We will never forget it.| Marylin and...

The three nights we spent on Kangaroo Island were the highlight of the trip to Australia. The location exceeded our expectations and if you like the pictures on the website, you'll be even more impressed in person. ||You look out directly from your room to the beach and the AU mainland in the far distance. There are kangaroo everywhere during the day and wallabies everywhere at dusk. ||The arrival started with a warm greeting by Jane and she handed each of us a glass of wine before having us check in. She knew all of our names right off the bat and the warmth and professionalism was demonstrated by all of the other staff (Yasmine, Tomas, Leo, Paul and a few others that I can't remember their names!).||As some others have noted, if you're on a package you'll have the full day island tour included and the other activities (lighthouse tour, honey tasting, sheep shearing, gin tasting, etc) as well. The activities vary a bit so your visit might be a bit different. The full day tour was the best day of the trip. Paul was excellent and we stopped at a cluster of trees by the road that was infested with koala -- there had to be ten or more. Then off to the arches beach that had fur seals, then to Remarkable Rocks, and a nice picnic lunch followed by a visit to the sea lion beach. It is a long day for sure and a lot of driving, but the scenery is serene and unspoiled. ||The dinner was included in the package and was a choice of two entrees and two desserts. Both were very good and we even used it as a way to get our picky eater to try lamb for the first time. The food was very good and several wine and beer options were also included. You could upgrade to fancier wines for added charge -- we're not wine or beer people so the included options were fine by us. The will also make a cocktail for you for added charge as well. ||The rooms were spacious with a living room area, an additional indoor seating area that looked over the patio to the ocean and then the outdoor patio itself. They're luxurious and clean and fresh. ||There are about a dozen rooms at the resort so you will only see about 20 or so people during your visit .. and may not actually see too many people elsewhere on the island either. It's definitely a remote place and you are somewhat captive so if you like the freedom to explore on your own, you might want to go with a package where the tours are not included and you drive your own car. ||I will have to say that this is a very expensive experience ... even if you factor in the fact that food and activities are included. But it's a priceless experience that will leave you with memories...

I only write really negative reviews when I feel that it is important to warn people that an establishment is truly bad. In this case the owner was not only uncaring, but a liar, which is obvious from her response to my review, which is why I have edited it.

Two of the three meals that I had there were badly cooked, by someone who did not know some basics of cooking. It turns out that they do not employ a chef, but have someone cooking from recipes, in this case badly. This information that there was no chef was given to me by a trustworthy staff.

The second day that we were at the resort, my husband came down with the flu. He could not leave the room due to a temperature, and the resort absolutely refused to give him any food for lunch. They have a full kitchen and had sandwices. Therefore, I had to take a ride into town, which was about 20 minutes, to get food. I was horrified that this is how they treat their guests. When I told the owner she totally dismissed this because we hadn't ordered a sandwich 24 hours beforehand.

The wait staff and others are temporary young people working while travelling the country. They are not well-trained or particularly competent, which is fine generally, but not what one would expect from a high priced resort. One of the employees lied, which was also disappointing.

The woman who runs the place also does not refund money for excursions, even though she gets the money back from the companies when people don't show up. I went on a swim with dolphins, which my husband was unable to go on due to the flu. The front desk told me they would not refund this money, but the company that did the swim said that they would happy to give me a refund, but it had to go back to the resort, since I booked it with them. When I told the owner this and the other issues, she said that she would only refund my money if I promised not to wirte a bad review. I find that very manipulative. This is not a place I recommend staying at all!

Please realize that the owners response is something that is a shameful...
