I usually wouldn't leave a review and never have, but the people here are terrible now, not sure what went wrong in the last year and a half, stopped in early last year and it was alright, stopped in a few weeks ago and couldn't get it out of my head how bad this place has gotten! The "owners" need a wake up call on how to treat people and a lesson on customer service. COULD get past the price of fuel and food if the service was good which it was ok last year, but it definitely wasn't this time around. When you order food or a drink you're waiting half an hour before you're served and by the time you are and by the time you get your drink you've been waiting 20+ minutes, they are also rude about it and make you feel like your interrupting their day. On top of that, the steak for the burgers is chewy and taste like chemical and my wifes hamburger was cold in the middle! And the fish burger my son ordered definitely wasn't barramundi like she said, tasted spoilled! couldn't believe it! Chips taste like they were cooked in old oil. Someone is gonna get food poisoning coming here if not already! We didn't eat it, kept moving! Got a peak in the kitchen from the bar and it is a mess! Clutter, dishes, dust, just a total mess. Dust everywhere all over the place, the souviners were dirty and the fridges smelt mouldy where you get your softdrinks/water from, cobwebs, toilets smelt like pee. My Wife was disgusted, bought our drinks but didn't really at all drink them. The people who rave on have either been up the cape too long out of civilisation or don't have eyes! Go in there and see for yourselves! Disgrace! Was in here early last year, they had the manager and i thought that it was funny they had someone so young! at least she served you and didn't make you feel like you were disrupting them and their whole day! it's completely gone backwards! I will never go back! Hope they get better but have lost a customer that returns every year for what used to be...

This place was a horror story, the only saving grace were the showers! Room was dirty, the bed was so hard we got our swags out and slept in them. They turn the power off at night so what was a cool room, becomes an oven without even a fan to keep you cool, but don't worry the batting of the hoards of mosquito wings around your ears and eyes will do the trick. So much for country hospitality the owners were not at all chatty, infact quite hostile and acted as if were were unwanted guests who rocked up uninvited despite booking a week earlier. The food, DO NOT EAT THE FOOD. We thought we will have dinner here, don't bother. We couldn't eat any of it, half raw/frozen even the chips on the side tasted like they had been cooked in year old oil, our dog wouldn't even eat them. It was like the oil had gone rancid or something and had a smell and taste of spoiled fish. I'm not sure if we walked in on a bad day when the owners were having a domestic or what, but honestly this has to have been the worst place we've ever stayed! Put a real dampener on exploring the area. The showers though, clean fresh water and hot! The showers themselves were average but we wanted people to know if they are pulling up in a self contained van, this place has at least that...

Where do I start, We had traveled 40 thousand klm around Australia, one stop and the most important to me was to see my uncle who i haven't seen since I was a13 (35 years ago) whom resides at the Palmer River Road House - I will always remember the look on his face the day I re- introduced myself and he met 'my' family and the day we left (Palmer river road house) we agreed on staying for a week at the road house for a week but ended up staying for a month , that was due to the hospitality from Andrew & Karen , they made us feel like family, and gave us a different perspective on life, we met 'Roy' the aspiring Station Manager, to 'gold miners like the legedary 'Jordan! whom still frequents the outdoor bar, pizzas you can jump over and undoubtably the best steak sanga in OZ !, we stayed a month because we could afford to, It's cheap , great food, great service, great company, great location, and the people in this part of OZ are what this...

We stayed there 2 nights ago in a tent. Nice place, however compared to all the other Roadhouses we stayed along the way up to The Tip and back it is the one with the least amount of powered and unpowered sites, which makes it hard to find a spot if you arrive late. Beware that there is a very noisy generator running where the unpowered sites are (below the campsites) and if you have kids, don't let them wonder around on their own as the whole property is ser on a hill and the surrounding area makes a deep drop which is unfenced. The inside of the Roadhouse looks very interesting and has a little museum, which is quite informative, in there which is free to visit. Don't miss the photoalbum on the counter. Meals were ok and staff were friendly and after they warmed up hubby had a bit of a chat. The toiletblock is very clesn & looks fairly new (3 showers, 3 toilets incl 1 for disabled people) , 2 washing machines, 1 dryer.

After a massive drive all the way from the Tip in one day, this place was a welcome relief. We arrived around 5:30pm and were glad to have power until 10pm, with it kicking in again at 7:00am the next morning. At just $35 a night, including water - that’s very reasonable. The sites are clean, flat, and quiet — surprisingly, we didn’t really hear any traffic from the nearby highway. It was also great to unwind with a game of pool and some table tennis. And don’t miss the Mexican Palma — highly recommend it! All up, a top little spot that ticks all the boxes. Would definitely stay again.

This is a great stop on the way into Cooktown to break up your journey. We stopped both going in and out. The food is freshly made and good value. Staff are super friendly and informative. They also have an interesting little museum of the history in the area. I was amazed to learn that our iconic Australian road trains have been around for such a long time. They have a pool table if you like playing pool and a little fountain inside which is nice to listen to whilst eating lunch. There are plenty of cool gifts to purchase too. Highly recommended.
