Stunning man made ex coalmine lake. Very deep, undrinkable water. Daytime visit for us but many camping in the unpowered sites. Colour of the lake is incredible...Italy like!
Update - Easter long weekend 2022 - it is packed, and from what we can see, only one small toilet block with people queuing outside. Update - back again, Feb 2023. Love this lake. Was here 2 days in a row One day At 5pm (with lots of boat activity) the water wasn't as blue or as stunning as we remembered. Back again the next morning and it was back to the blue we remember...must've just been churned up from all the boats..? Update January 2025 - visiting for the day only. A lot of rubbish at the campground. It appears the water level has dropped a little since our last visit. People still jumping from up above but counter the lower water levels by having to jump out far. It’s not easy to guess some accidents waiting to happen. A small section of one of the popular cliff edges has broken away, which also appears to be dangerous. Still fabulous to swim in, beautiful temperature - not freezing like honeymoon pool. Clay and rocky bottom. Can be a...
Read moreBeen looking forward to visiting here for a long time as one of the few dog friendly places to camp. The lake was stunning. The clientele, not so much!! As a couple with a 9 year old daughter, this experience was completely spoilt by others who obviously thought this was a nightclub!! Music blasting way after midnight, swearing, shouting, singing and falling over drunk until around 2am. (Then on and off after that as these louts tried to find their way to their pits!!) No ranger, called police who couldn’t do anything as this is a public space. Be cautious if you want a weekend with any kind of sleep at all! Will NEVER visit again, which is a complete shame as it really is beautiful here. We planned on 2 nights here, but left after the first night and...
Read moreStockton Lake is an old open cut coal mine that has filled with water. It is a stunning aqua blue on a sunny day and has basic camping facilities. It is used for swimming and boating activities. The bushland area has some lovely wildflowers amongst it in Spring, but the area has been quite degraded by inconsiderate visitors who leave rubbish and don’t use the toilet block facilities there. A recent bush fire has left some of the bushland blackened...this will eventually return though. I think it could be a beautiful place to visit if the surrounds were managed with more care, and rubbish facilities and better toilets were there. The lake in itself is just an amazing colour that is also complimented by Black Diamond lake several...
