Castaways Apollo Bay — Hotel in Skenes Creek

Our first surprise on arrival was that this accommodation isn't in Apollo Bay but is 6km away, in Skenes Creek, so a taxi is required if you want to drink at dinner. The two rooms are underneath the owners' house and it's all about the location overlooking the sea. This is great if you've got fantastic weather but it was grey and very windy when we were there so it was just cold and bleak. Our room was large but dated with a small kitchen in one corner and very cheap furnishings. The TV had only basic channels and there was was no WiFi, so there wasn't the option to stay in as we couldn't even watch anything online so we had to go out for supper. ||||It was lovely to have large windows on two sides but there were no blackout blinds. The bathroom was tragic with poor lighting and nowhere for toiletries. The breakfast basket was good if basic. We felt it was definitely overpriced. ||||We were also disappointed that when we asked if our son (a surprise visitor) could sleep in our room we were told "no" as that was against their policy. Our son is 31 and was going to bring his own bedding and we'd offered to pay extra so this seemed petty in the extreme. It wasn't like we were...

Stopped for two nights in late May. Whilst this is the end of autumn, there is still good weather to be had on the Great Ocean Road. The location is set back up above the road with a wonderful view of the sea and bay. We stayed in room 2 which is beautifully laid out, a very comfortable (and large) double bed, two seater couch, TV and DVD player, a small kitchen and a great bathroom and double shower. The view of the ocean from the outside deck and bed is mesmerising, you can easily loose track of time watching the waves break.|This is the most wonderful place to relax and unwind and a couple of nights is not enough time to fully enjoy it. A perfect location for a romantic getaway.||The breakfast package was just right for our needs and it is only a few minutes to Apollo Bay for anything else you might want.||Definitely somewhere we want to come back to again, only for a bit longer than just a...

I had an amazing tranquil stay at the Castaways. Definitely my most favorite of my Great ocean road journey!|Listening to the grandeur of the ocean waves while sleeping is most inspiring. As mentioned in previous reviews it was very difficult to leave in the mornings while soaking in the amazing views of the ocean and rolling hills from your breakfast table.|The breakfast picnic was healthy and enjoyable. The room was large, homey well designed / furniture built by the owners.|Speaking of the owners they couldn’t have been nicer!! Very passionate making sure their guests have a great experience along with great ideas of all the activities you may desire.
