A Hidden Oasis in the Outback!

Coward Springs Campground is a true gem for travellers looking for a peaceful and unique experience in the Australian outback. Nestled along the historic Oodnadatta Track, this retreat offers a perfect blend of rustic charm and natural beauty.

The highlight of the campground is undoubtedly the artesian spa. Soaking in the warm, spring water under the wide-open sky is an experience like no other – pure bliss after a long day of driving! The natural setting of the spa, surrounded by reeds and birdlife, adds to the charm.

The campsites are spacious, well-maintained, and thoughtfully designed to blend seamlessly with the environment. The facilities are basic but clean.

The heritage buildings and interpretive displays on-site provide a fascinating glimpse into the history of the region, making it more than just a stopover. It’s clear that a lot of love and care has gone into preserving this special place.

The owners were welcoming and knowledgeable, happy to share tips about the area and its history.

If you’re looking for a quiet, off-the-beaten-path spot with a unique touch, Coward Springs Campground is a must-visit. Highly recommended for nature lovers and anyone seeking an authentic...

I am without a doubt, gonna say that’s the best campground we’ve done in Australia.

Hosted by the loveliest people, super helpful, had super great chats.

There is a date plantation which they are working to grow and maintain very well sadly close to public for now but, they make food with it, fresh homemade scones, ice cream…

And I’m french, I’m picky about food believe me. BUT that was lovely, and super cheap !!

5$ two homemade hot scones, in the middle of the desert ! Affogato was lovely.

The showers are super good and of course hot, you can walk around. There is a lot of shady spots, lot of space. Strict rules that make the place a true living oasis

When we went they were LOADS of flies, but they can’t do a thing about it, we didn’t picked the best time to go it was just after a flood. But everything was perfect. I will definitely come back, and stay longer. And you should too.

I recommend to pre book as they can get pretty busy, they reply super quickly and keep your spot even if they don’t have an answer from you due to...

Coward Springs Campground was a true highlight of my Australian camping adventure. After several nights in the Outback, this was by far the best stop along the journey.

I didn’t have a reservation, but even though the campground was nearly full, they were able to find me a great spot for my Hilux.

The grounds are thoughtfully maintained, with a drop toilet and a classic donkey shower. The setting was peaceful and serene—everything I’d hoped for in a remote Outback campground.

Barb and Scott were incredible hosts. I even accidentally left my wallet behind, and as I was heading down the Oodnadatta Track, nearly to William Creek, another guest (thanks Fernanda!) tracked me down to return it.

Coward Springs is a special place run by special people. It was truly a standout moment from my entire trip...

A lovely oasis in the middle of the driest place in Australia! Beautiful private camp spots with a fire place, covered from wind and sun. A lot of interesting history. Run by really lovely people, Tim and Caroline. We had a flat tire and no repair kit, Tim was more than happy to help us fix it. Definitely recommended, worth a visit and a swim in the natural spa. They have warm showers and drop toilets. Very maintained and clean. Best in the bush. Camping prices is $15 night/pp. Entry just to visit is a bargain of only $2 per person. Support this place so it can and will stay here forever. Definitely coming back.

To be travelling on the Oodnadatta Track is one thing, but to come across a campground like this on was fantastic. Only a one night stay for us but the memories of waking up to hundreds of Cockatoo’s & Galah’s bringing in the new day was priceless. It was $12pp to camp for the night and there are plenty of sites on offer. Self registration, privately owned with well maintained facilities, pit toilets, hot showers, natural spa from the spring and also a small museum in the old engine drivers room from when trains used to run past in days gone by. A great experience, one not to be missed in theses parts.

Love that we found this super dog friendly and dreamy campsite (with lots of shade!) in the middle of the desert. Stayed here last winter with my partner and our pup, and the owner lit the fire every afternoon so we could have a hot shower in the evening. We loved the rough romance of the fire shower after a relax in the hot springs. Also just loved the whole vibe and family-like approach with which the owners treated us. Recommend the the date ice cream. I think we bought two every day!
