Talaroo Hot Springs is nestled in the heart of the Gulf Savannah region of Far North Queensland, Australia, just off the Savannah Way between Mount Surprise and Georgetown. This unique outback destination is not only stunningly remote but also culturally and geologically rich. A Truly Unique Outback Experience Talaroo Hot Springs offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to relax, learn, and connect with both nature and Indigenous culture. Here's a breakdown of what to expect: Highlights • Guided Tour of the Springs: The guided tour is a must-do. Our guide was knowledgeable and passionate, sharing fascinating insights into the ancient geological formation of the springs, traditional custodianship, and sustainable land management practices. Learning about native bush foods was an added bonus and brought deeper meaning to the experience. • Private Soak Tubs: For just $50, up to six people can enjoy a private soak in a mineral-rich tub. Times are available at 8, 9, 10 AM and 3, 4 PM. You can adjust the temperature with hot and cold taps—perfect for customising your soak. • Eco Tents: The accommodation strikes a great balance between comfort and eco-consciousness. Our eco tent was spotless and thoughtfully equipped with a mini fridge, pod coffee machine, and deck chairs for stargazing or watching wildlife. • Natural Surroundings: The walk to the Einsleigh River is a bit rocky, but well worth it—especially on a hot day. The cold water and sandy shores are perfect for a refreshing dip. Wildlife lovers will be thrilled to see kangaroos and wallabies up close, with wedgetail eagles soaring overhead. • General Store: The onsite general store is well-stocked with essentials, though if you're into board games or cards, you’ll want to bring your own. What Could Be Improved • BBQ Facilities: Unfortunately, 3 out of 4 gas BBQs were out of gas during our stay, and there were no spare bottles available. This was disappointing given the remote location where alternative cooking options are limited. • Connectivity Issues: There’s no mobile reception, and the WiFi at reception is patchy at best—especially when more than three people are trying to connect. This adds to the feeling of being “off the grid,” but it can be inconvenient for planning or emergencies. • Amenities Maintenance: While mostly clean, the communal showers got quite dirty at peak times, and the absence of hand soap was a small but noticeable oversight. Final Verdict Talaroo Hot Springs is a hidden gem in Queensland’s outback—perfect for those seeking relaxation, cultural enrichment, and a deeper connection to nature. While there are a few logistical hiccups that could be improved, the overall experience is memorable and absolutely worth the journey.

Talaroo Talaroo Talaroo.... if it wasn't for the cleaner having a yarn and showing respect, it would have been a 3 star, the reception girl (Lyn) seemed under the pump and shows herself as a little rude, but the longer we stayed the more you can see thats just the way she is.. blunt... we stayed for 3 nights on a powered site, the amenities are well equipped but would be a little under the pump during the busy season with only x1 washing machine and x3 male and x3 female showers, at about 40 sites. The only thing free was the swimming pools at reception, it was a big disappointment when we found out we had to pay to see the hot springs bridge walk at $110 a family but we couldn't do that because we have a dog and it wouldn't be fair to leave one kid at camp to look after the dog The pool soaking was nice with toilets close by. lyn convinced us not to do the afternoon soaks because it would be too hot but the afternoons to us was beautiful $50 for 40 mins and $25 every time after that. Oh yeah and finally.... We were told the water is potable but all the notes in the emails and site maps say non potable. And the taste was absolutely horrible. I would recommend visiting this place, and seeing it for yourself. The Dam behind the fence was amazing with all the kangaroos, Ducks, big birds and more. I would have loved to of been able to pull my camper over that hill and watched that view all afternoon. Thanks again

This was a genuinely uplifting and educational experience which we will never forget. It is more than camping and a hot spring. Four days of serenity in a beautiful natural setting. We can't speak highly enough of Talaroo, the tour, the staff, the facilities (all brand new and 5 star) and more importantly the way this newly aquired property is now being managed in a regenerative way. You won't see anything like this anywhere else . The Ewamian people are restoring the pools, water flow and water system so it is returning to the way it was pre cattle, hence , for example, the board walks replacing concrete paths. The river bank and bed is sandy with hundreds of weeping paper-bark trees giving full and dappled shade for pre and post swims-no reeds, crystal clear water, picture perfect. We learned from our inspiring Indigenous guides how the unique, 20,000 year old health- giving mineral -rich thermal waters come from literally unfathomable depths. The tour was fascinating, then the private soak pool the following day was great. Thankyou sincerely Tracey and Lavinia for sharing your stories, knowledge and genuine feelings. We are already looking forward to our return.
