Right next door to Safire, but closer to the ocean and with a better view for a fraction of the price, Edge of the Bay is perfectly named. The Hazards fill the entire view from your bed, the ocean is 20 metres away from your deck, and wallabies come up every afternoon in the hope of food. Rooms are big, bright and modern. A superb bathroom with walk in shower, nice lounge and plenty of space for hanging clothes. There is a decent guest laundry, but, right now, nowhere to eat as the restaurant is shut. The Ocean View rooms have a toaster, small fridge, kettle, cutlery and crockery so you can make your own breakfast or lunch, but no microwave or cooktop, so, for dinner you need to eat out or arrange a take away from the limited options in Coles Bay. We were fortunate to escape the Tasmanian ban on Covid location, and so did not have any problems with our booking like many below. We understand how terrible this time has been for people in the hospitality industry, but given the loss of the restaurant management should consider offering some cooking facilities, such as a BBQ, use of the kitchen in the restaurant or install simple cooktops and microwaves in the rooms. If they did that we'd happily stay here for weeks. However, to be fair, if you wish to self-cater there are fully equipped cottages. Resort is slightly overselling this place given the limited facilities, but they have rowboats and bikes to borrow, and tennis courts if you’re feeling energetic and an extensive library of DVDs if you just wanted to chill out. WiFi was okay, good enough to stream Netflix and download. However, we just enjoyed the view, swam and walked on the incredible beaches right out front. A wonderful, relaxing break with a 5 star front row view.

Everything about this hotel is magical. The rooms are big and spacious, comfortable and ultra clean. The great big glass patio doors open up onto the most amazing view of the back side of Freycinet park (only about 7 months drive to the trails, you could probably even walk it if you wanted). There’s a small kitchenette that has everything you need, and a lounging area with a big ole couch. Super duper amazing property, you might even be lucky enough to see some wallabies hopping around on the grounds. The piece de resistance through was turning off all your lights at night and stepping out onto the back patio to a whole world of stars in the sky above, for miles in each direction. Also the staff is super great. Jamie and Christina were very helpful. Note: if they’re not at reception when you arrive just give them a ring, they live on site so they’re always around somewhere. And the big keychain on the key goes in the electricity slot by the door so don’t get confused why you can’t turn on the lights otherwise. This unbelievably short stay was easily one of the best highlights of our trip!

Absolutely stunning, I can't recommend enough. Our ocean view room had uninterrupted views across the bay to the Hazards, with stunning sunset and sunrise vistas each day. We spotted several endemic birds including flame robins in the beautifully landscaped gardens. There was an extra comfortable king size bed, endless hot water and plenty of thoughtful small touches like real ground coffee and a plunger. I recommend taking advantage of the hotel's free row-boats on the beach and paddling around the bay. The Lure Restaurant is under new management (about 6 months as of May '22) and the food is absolutely divine. A true fine dining experience with exceptional service. The duck ragu was impeccable. The tea tree (Melaleuca) coloured water might raise eyebrows for some, however melaleuca is a naturally antibacterial and has been used by Indigenous Australians for thousands of years for its medicinal properties. Showering in hot tea-tree water was a treat. I will definitely be returning.

This review is going to be two parts, the accommodation and the restaurant.

Accommodation __ Paid $465 for one night in the King Ocean Suite, I am a fan of nature but our room was predominately blocked with coastal trees, which is not like the room shown on the website. This night was a big night for us as I proposed to my fiance over Wineglass bay that afternoon. When we first arrived to check in there was a male and female couple having a deep discussion regarding the local politics and council issues around the area. I found it a little negative to hear considering how pumped up we were,it later turned out that his person works or possibly owns the premises so that was quite an unprofessional first impression.

The WiFi is intermittent and the bathroom fan works via sensor so if you are getting up to go to the toilet in the night quietly the fan kicks in, no choice to turn on or off. Finally after an exhausting day we got into bed to watch a movie and settle in for the night....The TV was broken, it was not the aerial reception as even selecting the TV guide menu the TV was flashing and all of the images were distorted. For the price we paid, we expected these things to be up to standard and checked.

Restaurant. We were excited for the restaurant and booked a table in advance. For entree we had a sour dough bread with a smoked eggplant dip, olive oil and a form of peppery berry bush dukkah which was delightful. For mains, i had the 'cape grim' eye fillet and my partner had the lamb, The meat for both were cooked perfectly the rest of the dish was a disaster. The eye filet was $39 and accompanied with smoked puree (again) and a cos lettuce CUT IN HALF like a boat with a splash of yoghurt dressing and micro herbs, for a $39 main, i still feel offended paying that much for a cut in half cos........ my partner also had a cos lettuce cut in half with the same toppings. It felt so basic considering the special occasion and the view you overlook....

We then ordered a cheeseboard for desert which once again really lacked any form of excitement and one of the three cheeses was quite dehydrated and old.

We informed the staff on our departure regarding the TV and the WiFi (did not mention the restaurant experience) and to be honest not much was said. All in all, we left feeling like the staff didn't really care for their customers and we were just another "tourist" number passing through the town. Very disappointing given the potential...

My wife and I recently spent four wonderful nights at Edge of the Bay Resort in Coles Bay, and we couldn’t be more impressed. Our ocean-side suite offered breathtaking views of the water and mountains, and the spacious room, with its incredibly comfortable king-size bed, made it easy to relax and unwind.

We especially appreciated the thoughtful touches: loose leaf tea, ground percolated coffee, bottled water in the room, and complimentary access to stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, and bikes. These little extras made a big difference.

What stood out most, though, was the warmth and hospitality of the entire team. Isaac, the General Manager, was exceptionally welcoming and full of great suggestions for local sights and activities. The Breakfast Manager Jamie, greeted us each morning with a smile and crafted delicious coffees to start our day. Andrea and Angela, our servers, were always cheerful and genuinely interested in how our holiday was going.

A special shout-out to Sam, the Maitre’d, whose friendly demeanor and deep knowledge of the dinner menu made our dinner special. His presence added a personal touch that elevated the entire dining experience.

We left feeling truly cared for and already look forward to returning - next time with family in tow. Highly...
