From the moment I stepped out of our vehicle I knew I'd made it to the location I'd searched so long to find . An hour gone already on my review trying to express what's so amazing about Swan River Sanctuary and say it as well as previous reviews have but I'm not as good with words as I wish I was so simple it is . To wake the morning after the first evening to the harmonious sound of the many local wannabe roosters Mooooing on the lawn beneath our bedroom was incredible, sitting on the verandah with eggs / bacon and a steaming mug of coffee watching the bush come awake in the morning , be mesmerised watching a frog make his way across the deck and up the window to feast on the tiny insects buzzing around in the porch light , the fun of sitting on the pontoon fishing for something I know I'm not going to catch not realising that the only reason I'm there by the water is so the resident white bellied sea eagle has a chance to observe who is in his yard today. Preparing good comfort food in a well appointed kitchen and eating with a nice cold glass of champagne where the sound of crickets or the crackling of the open fire are the only distraction from trying to find the biggest abalone shell on the wall. The magnificent view of the surroundings from the bedroom window as good as any I've seen. All in all a remarkably beautiful location where I was able to enjoy a few days relaxing with my partner in the most tranquil and serene setting I've ever experienced. Felt like we were the only ones for hundreds of miles . Will definitely...
Read moreOffering a wood-fired sauna, antique pool table and a free-standing bathtub with commanding views over a secluded East Coast waterway, Swan River Sanctuary was a sensational spot for our recent all-girl getaway. We were lucky enough to score a weekend stay at a charity auction for Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania (it was generously donated by the owner). The location of this property, set among green fields with not a neighbour in sight, is nothing short of amazing. Perched above the Swan River, every room has a view. Some of the state’s best vineyards are just a short drive away, which means there’s plenty of great eating (and drinking) experiences to be had. If you want to stay put, the kitchen has everything you need to whip up a feast. The level of comfort inside the house is first rate, with eclectic décor, Bluetooth sound system, and an ambient open fire to enjoy. Outside, the river beckons for a bracing swim after a steamy session in the sauna. Swan River deserves a place on everyone’s bucket list. Our group would return in a heartbeat. In fact, we didn’t...
Read moreMy stay with three friends at Swan River Sanctuary overnight on 25th/ 26th March was the highlight of my trip to Tasmania, the high point of which was a boat trip on the Swan, with Mathew commentating . The serene early-morning setting was magical and Mathew's passion for the Indigenous and Post-European history spell-binding. (The regenerative farming being practiced on the property, which we had delved into the previous afternoon, was also extremely interesting). The house is beautiful in an eclectic way - an open fire and lots of engrossing books around to tempt a travelled-out house guest - Alex's food was simply delicious. Thank you, Mathew and Alex, for the care you took of us - you could not have been more charming, thoughtful and generous hosts. I wish you all the best - we had a simply lovely time staying at...
