Awesome experience in the middle of the Tarkine. We and our friends drove in carefully in two normal cars and it was fine. Coffee machine and pods, and great kitchen with everything you need except we could not quite assemble the blender (we only tried for a couple of minutes). Beds and mattresses are great ( I get a bad back otherwise). Best to plan on staying in and bring food, drinks, and provisions unless you have a four-wheel drive that w would allow you to duck in and out. Our two couples enjoyed playing cribbage and bananagrams provided (as well as quite a few other games). TV was excellent 65 inch (?) 4k which we hooked up to a google chromecast ' google Tv' ( you will need an extension cord to plug it in) and an external hard drive. You coukd just enter your own netfkix, dusney, prome video subscriptions and remember to remove them before leaving. WiFi solid 50 Mbps. Walks in the forest were great but be careful to follow the pink guide ribbons and keep the glow of sunlight from the open paddocks nearby -- First check the map of walks on the wall near the complimentary whiskey (!). The forest is of a type that is officially classified as ' park-like' which is as wonderful as it sounds but means that EVERYWHERE looks like a path due to the lack of undergrowth under the tight canopy. Once the pink ribbons marking the path disappeared we had to climb out on a fence (barbed wire top strand!) only to see we were about 200 metres from the end ( we could have just back-tracked). Man-ferns and giant myrtles and gums show how little it has changed since the dinosaurs. Mother and baby pademelon (furry little wallabies) around the building were too cute for words. A great experience. Found my sunglasses and texted me then sent them to me carefully wrapped. A must-do...

We planned to do the self-catering plan, where we bring and cook all of our own food because I am vegan and I hate to trouble other people with trying to figure out what to make for me. Maree, the owner and manager of this property went above and beyond and made us vegan friendly soup and dessert upon our arrival...so freaking sweet! We arrived to the place at like 10 pm, but she still met us up at the lodge and showed us around and told us all about how the lodge is 100% solar powered and uses rainwater...which is so amazing! The next morning Maree took us on a three-hour walk through the rain forest. She was really knowledgeable and the experience was amazing. After that, we were able to meet so many wallabies who had been recently released into the wild into the rain forest. The land the lodge on is like hundreds of acres and the wallabies live freely. The lodge is huge, spacious and the architecture is just beautiful. I definitely recommend visiting for this one-of-a-kind experience. The only thing is that there is no phone service or wi-fi at the lodge, which might horrify some people, but it was honestly nice to unplug...
Read moreA good time to travel to the Tarkine area as the temperate rainforest is outstanding at this time of year - mosses, lichens & fungi on the old myrtle beeches, towering stringbarks, blackwoods, dogwood & native laurel - just 45 minutes from Wynyard down a very scenic road the Lodge sits high on a hill overlooking a 360 degree view of the forest area & the surrounding hills, including Phantom Peak hiding in the early morning mists. Double glazed the lodge is extremely comfortable with excellent facilities, kitchen, en suite bedrooms - plenty of good coffee table books to browse through reminding us what a very special place the Tarkine is. Maree is one of the most pleasant patient host one could meet & spoilt us with her carrot cake & apple crumble. We self catered in a well supplied kitchen. We took two 3 hr walks with Maree in the rainforest which we thoroughly enjoyed & whilst the previous guests had been fortunate enough to come across a giant freshwater crustacean, we did spot a bright yellow canary worm & quite a few Mick Jagger Lips fungi! Pademelons & curious currawongs visited & peered through the glass doors of the lodge & we saw scats evidence of Tassie devils. Did we enjoy our time at the Lodge??? You bet we did!! ...
