We booked a family holiday here over the new year break. As great as the resort is, my 1 star review is due to many disappointing factors. Upon arrival we were advised that someone would come to show us how to use the facilities as we had booked in the group accomodation area. No safety signs or any "how to" guidelines for any of the facilities. On their website the description for the kitchen facilities is as below "Communal Area with Cooking Facilities (cooker, microwave, barbeque), Fridges, & Individual Lockers" - The cooker was dirty, hadn't been cleaned in months it seemed. The barbeque was non existent. We travelled from Melbourne Victoria with our own meat to have a "Bbq" day only to find that the BBQ didn't exist. To rectify this they tried to give us a small freestanding bbq that was completely rusty and had possum poo on it that looked like had been there for months - No THANKS! They then gave us access to the commercial kitchen as we were stuck with all the meat with nowhere to cook it, only to charge us an extra $100 to use the kitchen. The rooms were filthy. Honestly staying in bush cottages we didn't expect 5 star accomodation but a clean bathroom and vacuumed floors would have done the job. Some of the rooms has dust build up as much as 1cm thick. This is unacceptable. We spent out first day trying to clean and ai out the dust and bug infested cottages. Webs and dead/alive bugs and spiders everywhere. ZERO safety when using the canoes. When asked if we could use the canoes we were told "yes, just make sure you wear the vests in these cabinets" the POOL was filthy!! we CLEANED the pool before we got to go in. there was hair and all sorts of rubbish in the water. The tiles around the pool were unstable, our children fell into holes of lose tiles countless times. This is uncalled for! The tiles on the edges of the pool were all lose. If you go to hold on to it while you're in the water, just beware as they may just come off On our last day, while we wanted to make our way home, we spent 45 minute to an hour in the office/reception as the owners tried to argue we needed to pay an extra $3,000 for our stay. Not only is this an unpleasant way to end a family holiday, it was also very unprofessional of them to try and charge these fees to us with no notice before we came. We came to this "resort" based on the amounts we had been quoted on and paid a deposit on - not anything more.
Don't be fooled by the beautiful photos in...
Read moreWhat a great getaway we've just had at Kianinny Bush Cottages!
We stayed 5 nights in a Superior Cottage which was cosy and comfortable, great for our family of 4.
We also booked an extra Superior Cottage for both sets of grandparents to join us on our getaway to the Sapphire Coast.
The Superior Cottages have 2 bedrooms, renovated bathroom, AC, fireplace, TV with DVD player, basic equipped kitchen with stove top, full sized fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, nespresso pod machine (no frother, we brought our own) and outdoor gas BBQ. We actually ate in most of the nights and had a BBQ lunch in their lakeside pavilion on one of the days.
The property includes free activities for guests: canoeing, table tennis, billiards, swimming pool and mini golf which the kids loved! Next time we'll have to try archery and the flying fox (additional charges apply) which we didn't get to try due to the rain. There's also a firepit, a volleyball/badminton court and a basketball court/tennis court free for guests to use.
The grandparent's Cottage had issues with the hot water system and the air con but the owners were quick to sort these issues out. Even on a national public holiday, the electrician was sent out to fix the hot water unit!
On our last morning, they held their first ever breakfast by the lake which was lovely. Reasonably priced and food was delicious. Try the green Hummus if you're lucky enough to be staying when they do their breakfast by the lake mornings.
Tathra is a beautiful small town, not much there but the wharf is a great fishing spot which is what we came for.
Tathra is a 20min drive to main towns like Bega and Merimbula so it's best you do your grocery shopping there as there's only a couple of general stores in Tathra.
Overall, we had an unforgettable stay in Tathra and at Kianinny. The owners are lovely, very accommodating and have the cutest dog who loved getting around the property meeting the guests.
Thanks Andrew and Che for everything! We had an amazing time on...
Read moreMy husband and I intended to stay one night and continue our road trip up the coast but now have extended our stay!
The cabins are so cosy and comfortable with log fires and the layout out the bush retreat cabins results in a feeling of privacy, and tranquility.
We spent the day on the road but couldn’t wait to get ‘back home ‘ and relax.
The staff couldn’t be more helpful. I asked for an extra frypan and within minutes a new one was delivered to our cabin.
I was surprised at how many extra facilities are offered free of charge like tennis , new pool, putt putt golf , canoeing on the lake , volleyball etc. If you have kids they would love the space and freedom to explore in safety in a natural setting. So much good healthy fun to entertain the kids!
The on-site bush walking trails are a plus for me as I could walk alone ( while my non hiking husband relaxed in the cabin) and feel safe that I wouldn’t get lost as I was still on the extensive property. I love a challenging hike and the trails ranged from short easy to more intense steep inclines etc.
You could spend the days on site and fill your day with lots to do or just kick back and relax on your private porch or take a short drive ( or hike) into town or the beach .
I’d strongly recommend a stay here not to mention the value for money. We stayed in both standard cabins and deluxe. My husband agrees the little extra updated details and comforts of the deluxe cabins are worth it . I’ve already recommended this place to family...
