I'm writing in regard to the response that the owner of Black Gold gave to my sister, Bronwyn Maurer after our recent stay. As there is no ability to respond to the owners I have had to write another review to address some untruths. Note that our original booking of an Executive twin room was booked on 23/9/23 for 2 night from 9/2/24 - booked 4.5 months in advance. Firstly, you say you don't have ability rooms with two beds. I thought that odd as many rooms have two beds or more and all of them are ability rooms (even those rooms that would be classified as disability could be used by able bodied people). When my sister originally booked and a couple of weeks after I called to ensure there was no shower over a bath as I have mobility issues and couldn't manage stepping into a bath to take a shower. On arrival my sister noticed that the room had 1 bed and a lounge. We went back to reception and we were told a few things. 1. They were totally booked out and 2. Our original room had been given to someone else (that same day) with no one calling us to confirm/check on our needs over the person standing in front of them. There was NO POINT in mentioning the difficulty with the 3 steps to anyone as we were told by the Manager it was the only room available. With so much parking on the property it is easy to not have people park in any spots allocated for people staying, by numbering the parking spots in front of each room (as this is where we were told to park) and having a seperate sign for Restaurant patrons (opposite rooms 1-6). Which is were we were told to park our second cat. In regard to the room smell on entry, it may have been the cleaning products but there was a definite odd smell when we walked in. It may have been closed up for a while. The cleaners were all lovely. When we spoke to the young girl and the manager on duty that day we told them we were not annoyed with them but we would like to know why the room was changed without confirming our needs knowing that we needed 2 beds and a room suitable for someone with mobility issues. The reason given by both of your staff was "I didn't change the booking" We have no intention of bashing someones business but it disturbs me that in your response, as owner, there was no apology for a staff member changing a room on us at the last minute. This could have all been avoided if you had worked with the information we gave you and responded...
Read moreThe big reason that this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the wifi network. I could talk about how it averages only 1mbps download with a max of 3mbps if you're lucky, but the actual reason it is so terrible is that all the smart TVs in the place are all on the basic guest network where anyone can control them. It would only take one malevolent person to ruin it for everyone else. Imagine you're watching TV and someone staying in another room who you've never met decides to blast very loud music through your TV speakers. Or perhaps you're enjoying a meal in the restaurant with your family when someone decides it would be funny to replace the football game on the telly with something more adult-oriented. At one stage I even received a notification on my phone asking me if I'd like to control the TV in one of the motel rooms. It told me which room the TV was in, what they were watching and gave me the ability to change the volume, pause, stop the show entirely or change it to whatever I wanted. What's worse is that when I brought this up with staff I was told that they were aware of it and they didn't seem to care that I could control all of their TVs with my smartphone. It wasn't through some techy hacker method either. My technologically challenged mother would be able to do it in under 60 seconds with apps that were already installed on her phone and that she uses regularly. Now that that grievance is out of the way, let me tell you about everything else, which was very lovely.
We stayed in the Cluff deluxe villa and it was absolutely beautiful. The cleanest accommodation I have ever stayed in with one exception: I found an empty packet of Viagra in my room right next to the bed. You know these sorts of things happen, but you don't want to be reminded of them when you're staying there. The main living space is luxuriously spacious and the provided couch and armchair is very comfy. The dining table is lovely too, but it does have some gouges out of the top and the chairs sound horrendous when you push them back to get up. The upstairs is very cosy with comfy recliners on either side. The shower is lovely and spacious with built-in shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispenser. It was great to have a kitchenette to use and a full size...
Read moreOn Fri 22/9/23 i went here for dinner and i ordered the lamb rosemary and honey sausages. the first bite i took of the sausages i new something didn't taste right. i cut off a small piece and gave to a friend to try and they said that tasted funny as well. After that every 15 minutes i was having to walk outside to go to the toilets to be sick. For the next 48hrs it was coming out of both ends! i couldn't eat or drink anything except water and my friend was also sick the next morning! I had to MC a wedding that next day and with what i was experiencing took all the enjoyment out of that special occasion for me! i clearly experienced food poisoning, from what i can guess is severe cross-contamination of some kind. i gave 2 stars as the staff polite and professional. Don't think i will ever be returning here
edited for response: i didn't continue to eat it after the first bites! you right food poisoning doesn't occur straight away, but cross-contamination does which is a form of food poisoning. Further more i would have addressed it with your manager but as i was outside throwing up! one of your staff took my plate away so i couldn't make a case to you manager without the evidence could i? Further more as i said at the start it happened on Friday night not last night and no i don't have gastro or any other sickness and ate exactly the same food as my friends that day.
you can find find it offensive and questionable as much as you like but its the truth and i give...
