The experience in Bay and Bush Cottage was pleasant. The place is nice and well equipped, almost like you walk in, it has mostly all you need. We enjoyed the outdoor bbq session with the kangaroo dancing around, the welcoming jazz music and nice air con for the hot day. These are all welcoming.
However, there are several things that we wish for improvements: As a professional who worked in 5 stars hospitality before, there is always a slight room for later check out when there is only one team of housekeeper. We have attempted to ask for 30min late check out as we had a late night engagement for dinner and might be coming back to the cottage late, hence we would appreciate to enjoy the last day of stay slightly longer so we have time to pack everything. But the reception team was too strict and not nice enough to give us a bit of room. We checked out early yesterday, with a super tired body for a long drive back to Sydney. And this part of the experience is not so appreciated.
When we booked, the Hyams Cottage was advertised for 4 people stay with 2 images of the bedrooms. And this was misleading as we thought there are 2 bedrooms in this cottage, and there is only one bedroom in reality and one of the guests had to sleep in the living room with no privacy. The house at night has constant reheat up fridge noise, making it quite difficult to sleep. And for us, this was a bit fault advertising. We did not expect 4 people can stay here meaning one to sleep on the couch and another one sleep on the corner of the living room with no privacy.
While we do appreciate the outdoor bbq, the bbq stove was very dirty and not clean for next guest to use. Although this cottage is well equiped, but there is not enough cleaning product to clean the stove, little to mention that is should be cleaned before guest staying.
Therefore, our experience with Bay and Bush is good, but there are indeed quite a lot of room for improvement. We paid a slightly more premium price to stay to enjoy and indulge ourselves for the holiday season. But the experience wasn't great for 100%. While the staff overall were friendly, but the reception was not nice enough to be slightly flexible and considered. Not sure if I would call this "money for...
Read moreWe were disappointed with the ‘honeymoon cottage’ which we felt was missing some simple, thoughtful touches which would have elevated the experience. As the name implies there will likely be a couple staying, but unfortunately there was only one comfortable chair in the cottage, despite there being plenty of room for another (or better still, a small couch to relax on). Having a cosy place to sit together indoors (in the winter) is quite a basic amenity when booking a ‘honeymoon cottage’. It was disappointing to find an empty glass bottle of water in the fridge and the kitchen in general was underwhelming. It was super basic and limiting and would benefit from a plug in stove top for those who would like to cook more for themselves whilst enjoying the local area. Overall, the cottage was dated and cold, for example, a rug in the kitchen on the cold tiled floor would’ve been a great touch. The windows were also not clean, which feels picky, however combined with the other points we felt it was worth feeding this back. As the accommodation is described as 4 star, we had high hopes, which unfortunately were not met. Other elements that added to the disappointment were the fact that when asked, a second chair was not provided. The ‘fitness classes’ that were eluded to online, are not up and running yet. The fire pit was not to be used when we were there. If guests don’t have access to any of these features, then the price point is...
Read moreStayed two nights at the Post Office the smallest and cheapest unit. Friendly greeting at 8pm arrival was a nice touch. Bedroom, bathroom and kitchen nook were all sparkling clean and well maintained. Everything needed was supplied. Plenty of kitchen equipment and cooking gear available. TV/VCR combo and WIFI all in good shape and functional. Bed/pillows super comfortable and everything clean. Had BBQ with local rellies which went down well. Seating scarce but they brought their own fold ups. Gardens and grounds well maintained. Quirky pottery scattered amongst the plants is either an Irish custom or Aunt Betty gone wild again. Backs on to national park with reported good walking trails available. Sighted but not tried. Plenty wildlife with roos and wild birds about. Staff friendly and helpful. Generally a calm and tranquil setting for rest and relaxation surrounded by the bush and wildlife with only a 10 minute drive to the heart of Huskinson and 20 mins to Vincentia for supermarkets etc. Some building on site is evident which is believed to be more units being built - maybe a nautical themed cabin?
Other units look well maintained and more spacious. A lot of attention to detail is included such as the water bubbler in the yard of the school and a full police lock-up with huge steel doors at the Police station. Highly recommended and will...
