The Gastof Ascherwirt is a typical, very pretty, alpine building situated in Brandenberg in the mist spectacular mountain setting. We stayed as part of a coach party on an all-inclusive basis. We were in the main building, room 117,as opposed to the annexe. The room had a wraparound balcony that overlooked the very pretty church and quiet main road. The room was fairly spacious. However, it was dark and lacked a mirror. The bathroom had an over bath, hand-held shower, which was adequate and a small mirror over the sink. The room doesn't have a hospitality tray for making tea, coffee, etc. |There is a good choice of food available at the breakfast buffet. You choose your evening meal at breakfast time and again a good choice. Normally, a choice of 1 of 3 meals on offer. The first course is a homemade soup, which was all delicious, the main is a choice of 3 and a dessert. Beer, wine, and soft drinks are available. However, the beer and wine are not fantastic quality. We did notice that other guests who were staying on a normal half board basis were able to access far better drinks. All in all, for the price paid, the accommodation was adequate. One fly in the ointment was that I inadvertently left a pair of nearly new leather shoes. It appears that they'd been pushed under the bed by the cleaner, and I missed packing them. I told our coach driver about 30 mins into our journey home that I believed I'd left my shoes. He offered to contact the hotel on my behalf. Unfortunately, this didn't happen. I contacted the tour operator immediately on our return home, who told me they were unable to help as it was my responsibility. I emailed the hotel and had a reply to say they'd found my shoes. I sent further emails offering to pay the cost of postage/shipping to eventually having a reply that it would cost €30 but was a complicated process and did I really want to pay that to have my shoes returned. I replied that I did, but unfortunately, to date, I've not received a further reply. So I assume it's...
Read moreThis would be a five star review had it not been for the pillows at the hotel - they are VERY thin and whilst I know that can be typical for Austria, for this Brit it made for a difficult sleeping experience. Staff were very happy to provide a second pillow for me though which did help!||||Hotel Weisman is a charming family run hotel nestled in the mountains of Austria so it is a little inaccessible but there is a local coach that runs to some of the other nearby towns. I visited as part of a coach trip so had no issues with getting there!||||Staff were all very friendly, with some varying levels of English, and they all worked hard as the entire hotel was SPOTLESS.||||Our room was rather old fashioned compared to the overnight hotels, but I really loved it as it felt truly Austrian rather than some bland corporate entity. The room we were in was very spacious with a large desk with two chairs, an inbuilt sofa that might double as another bed, and a large double bed (two singles in one frame). The toilet is seperate to the bathroom area which was convenient, though the bathroom itself was a little on the small side there was still plenty of room to towel off. The ony thing I would change would be a hook on the bathroom door to hand a towel or clothing. The shower isn't the strongest but it heated quickly and the pressure was decent so I was content.||||The meals at the hotel are very good, breakfast was a continental affair and always had the BEST locally baked bread rolls. As we were on a coach trip dinner changed every night and for the most part was excellent, with only one meal being a miss from me (egg soup?!?!)||||I would happily stay at this hotel again either on a coach trip or independently.||||Vielen Dank fur die toll Service und Essen!||||Dies ist ein charmantes Gästehaus, eingebettet in den Bergen Österreichs. Das Personal ist höflich und hilfsbereit und das Hotel selbst ist makellos sauber. Das Essen ist lecker und das Frühstück ist...
Read moreWe stayed as part of a large coach tour. Lovely, traditional hotel in a very pretty village, with great views. We had a room overlooking the local church and school with mountains in the background. Lots of walks nearby and basic facilities such as a Spar and a bakery. The rooms were traditional and basic, but kept very clean and more than adequate for our stay. We found the beds comfortable and if you need more pillows, just ask. The bathroom was modern with a powerful shower. Breakfast was repetitive and did not have a huge choice, but what was there was of good quality and more than sufficient to start your day (yogurt, cereal, ham, cheese, rolls, boiled eggs, fruit juices, teas, coffees) Evening meal was home cooked and excellent value. We had delicious soup every night and the main courses were excellent too (e.g. roast beef, pork in cream, wiener schnitzel, beef roulade, served with veg and a different style cooked potato each night). Puddings were simple and small, but more than enough after the previous two courses. The packed lunches (cheese or ham roll, apple, carton drink, small chocolate bar) came in very handy. I would liken them to a kid's packed lunch and they were great to fill a gap and tide us over until our evening meal. The all inclusive drinks from half six until ten on certain selected drinks had choices that we were more than happy with and was very useful. The family who run the hotel are very polite, welcoming and friendly. They work extremely hard for their customers and sometimes lacked the respect they deserved from a few rude members in our coach party, which was embarrassing to see. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. Thank you very much to all of the staff here who worked so hard to make our stay...
