We stayed 3 nights in August 2019 as we wanted to stay in traditional 'hut' style accommodation. The owners are very nice and all the staff were very pleasant. We had a unique experience that my husband loved. I had mixed feelings. I loved the adventure... hiking daily, the remote location, the 2 cable car rides to get there, and the location in a 'valley' on top a mountain, with animals around the lodge. However, it was quite expensive. It is essentially a nice hostel. The website says that it can sleep 100+ people... we were on the 2nd floor. Looking around three floors of the lodge, we could only find 4 toilets and 2 showers in the whole place (maybe they are hidden somewhere, but I think that's it). We had to go down narrow stairs at night to go to the toilet... also the floors creaked so you heard everyone at night... going to bed, going to toilet, etc. Our bedroom door didn't have a lock on it and we had an expensive camera etc, however, no one took anything. Trust is a great thing! There is no lock on the shower door either... when I was in the shower room a guy and then a girl rocked in (Suppose it's what you are used to, or not. I'm kinda ok with strangers seeing me naked but not sure everyone is ok with that.) There was always lots of food at breakfast and dinner, and staff always lovely. We did several lovely walks and we enjoyed our stay; hiking during day and playing board games at night. It seems a great place for families to escape... with a play area and animals (goats, ponies, rabbit, hens, cows, etc) and lots of board games for the evening time. Yeah, it was expensive, but an experience I'll never forget; very memorable - that's what...
Read moreGjaid Alm is a place which is not exist in anywhere else and a place where you always want to come back again. So unique so enchanted so lovely, you can be addicted if you tried once. There are some weaker points, e.g. the toilettes are always cold in winter, the staff and guests often shut the doors, the food monotonous(ish), of course only at a longer stay, and it is subjective. I missed the vegetables from the breakfast. The vegetarian dishes were extreemly good. There are no words to express the helpness of the staff specially the owners. The activities the views are unpaired. I have neverseen longer skislopes in my life. You can hike and climb and ski, etc. They are bery attentive and nice and you can have very good time to be here even you have small childrens. Large versatile of accommodation types and with the half board it can be very economic with what you receive finally. The spirit of Buddha can be seen in all corners. And dont forget! On the mountain you are always a guest, respect its power because you cannot...
Read moreThis is a great mountain lodge a 5 min downhill trek from the last cable car station in the Dachstein mountains.. It sits in a nice vale and has a great terrace for soaking the sun and the views! The place serves good food made using fresh organic ingredients and has a healthy amount of vegetarian options too! There is a small but nice bar serving beer, cafe, schnapps and other drinks. The accommodation is basic with double rooms, family rooms or dorms all with shared bathrooms and a shower facility downstairs where you need to pay 1.5Euro to take a shower! But the location is why you would come here and not the luxury! It is a great starting point for treks into the mountains. The one to recommend is the one to Simonyhutte which sits just below the Hallstatt glacier.. A 3 hour trek gets you to this hut high up in the mountains where you can catch a bite to eat or a drink and then head back down for a...
