I was not sure about this hotel at first, we had just stayed 4 nights in a typical, olde worlde ski hotel and the Enzian was totally the opposite to that, a very contemporary feel which at first felt a bit unwelcoming. Once you got over this you realised that it was not the case at all. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, giving a very polished and professional service and really go out of their way to make your stay as pleasant as possible. A special thank you to our lovely waiter Gabor who looked after us both at breakfast and evening meal and always in time to top up our wine glass and to Bence, one of the bar staff, who quickly got to know what our favourite evening tipple was!||We had a lovely large room (316) which was very modern but maybe a little stark, very clean with a comfortable bed although we did request an extra topper pad due to our bad backs and extra pillows which were promptly sorted for us. They had coffee making in the room which was a nice touch.||The food in the restaurant was amazing with quality ingredients, especially the starter and main course each evening, you ate a fabulous meal the first night and the second night was even better and the third and the fourth! Each meal surpassed the last when you thought it could not be possible, the best food we have ever eaten in a hotel, restaurant or cruise ship for a long time and consistently good. They really need to keep hold of this amazing chef. My only one gripe was that they offered all this wonderful food, an amazing huge gratis buffet between 3-5 which was not just the usual cakes but consisted of a different soup each day, a hot meal, lots of salads, nibbles, breads, cakes etc, and yet each evening we were charged €3 for a carafe of tap water! Also at breakfast lots of bottles of juices, freshly squeezed orange juice and unlike other hotels, no water still or sparkling on the buffet, that is the only thing I would change, everything else was faultless.||The wellness area was lovely, 2 areas, one clothing (textile) and one nude (non textile), both with swimming pools, saunas etc. The pool in the nude area was a large outside, infinity pool with jacuzzi style seating in one section, a beautiful view of the mountains and overlooking one of the ski runs, the area was open from 1pm. They also had a couple of sauna programmes which I have never experienced before, each day at 5pm and 6pm for 10 minutes, run by a lovely young girl called Kitty. Each programme was different with different infusions used, all to music and one session (which at first sounded rather strange…to a Brit) was where she mixed yogurt and course sea salt together which was then handed out to us to rub over our skin and to use as an exfoliant, it was amazing, your skin felt so wonderfully soft and silky afterwards. The only bad thing was that unfortunately Kitty has to have a day off in the week and we really missed her on that day! She was amazing, very passionate and enthusiastic about what she was doing, and I could not help think that the poor girl must have been so exhausted after the 10 minute session although you would never have known.||We were not sure what we thought of the skiing in Sölden, although Obersolden is a quiet area at the top of the mountain, Sölden is classed as a bit of a party town and this attracts a lot of younger people and there was a higher percentage of erratic snowboarders on the mountain. It was very busy on the mountain and queues for the lifts, the groomed runs were trashed within about an hour of skiing. I would have hated to have been a novice skier here as although there are a lot of blues they seemed quite difficult, maybe also due to the fact that the snow conditions were not perfect when we were here. We used to watch the skiers at the end of the day from the swimming pool, they were still skiing down the mountain to Sölden at 5pm, most of them a bit worse for wear after, I guess, stopping at the bars on the way back, maybe too many jaegertees!! You could ski out of the hotel (albeit a little tricky, suggest you do not exit via the ski room directly but to climb up one flight of stairs and set off from the higher level), then down to the gondola but this is on a short section of a red run, skiing back was across the red straight to the hotel door (again safer to head for the higher level).||We had flown into Munich airport and hired a car as we were doing a 2 centre ski holiday with a weekend in Salzburg in between. We fortunately managed to get a 4 wheel drive car which we were so thankful of as the day we left the hotel it snowed overnight and throughout the day and the road to the hotel, although they say is never shut, is not for the faint hearted or for anyone from a country not used to driving in these conditions. The road it quite narrow, especially at the top, with very steep, tight, hair pin bends. You needed chains to go up and down (in bad weather) or 4 wheel drive and careful driving was fine. When you get to the hotel they have valet service who swiftly empty your car and whisk your gear up to your room and park your car for you. When you leave they will collect your gear from the room, retrieve your car and load up for you.||We were not sure about the ski area but would love to come back to this hotel again, we had a lovely stay and can highly recommend it. Unfortunately they are not open in the summer (as yet, we were told they were in discussions with the chef), however they have 4 or 5 sister hotels in other places and we would certainly seek them out in the future if they are anything like the quality...
