JUFA Hotel Veitsch — Hotel in St. Barbara im Mürztal

We have stayed at Jufa in Salzburg before so we were confident of a good establishment to stay in. This was the first night of a 6 night adventure from Kaprun through Steiermark and Slovenia back through Karnten to Kaprun . ||The Jufa is large but we found it spotlessly clean . The triple room for myself and two teens was just as we expected with the added bonus that the beds could be unclipped and slid to the preferred distance from your fellow sleepers! So often my daughter draws the short straw on our trips - either sleeping on the floor or sharing a double bed with Mum and a huge baracade of pillows !!! ||The bathroom and shower were very modern and there were products provided ( soap shampoo etc) which we used.||We had a balcony which was a blessing in the heat wave we experienced as we could leave the door open all night. The balcony overlooked the spacious gardens and forest beyond. ||The check in staff were friendly as was the barman. We asked about the security of our bikes locked to our car in the parking area and we were assured that they would be safe, ||The enclosed grounds had various things to amuse children from swings and a small outdoor pool to table tennis and giant chess. We availed ourselves of the latter and met some friendly Hungarian children. It was most pleasant sitting outside enjoying a drink in the evening and the Wifi extended to the terrace. There was no wifi in the room which was a slight inconvenience to the teens. ||The evening meal was very good value at 6.80 per adult and 5.50'for children. The salad buffet was plentiful and soup was available . There were plenty of mains to help ones self to and the fruit salad dessert was also plentiful and delicious . It was not fine dining but it was plentiful basic fare. It was possible to sit outside on the terrace to eat but we chose the cooler dining room. One must clear ones plates etc but this is the general rule at most hostels- we did not have to strip our beds at the end of our stay - at least we did not notice a sign telling us to do so!!||The breakfast buffet was very good and we sat outside to enjoy our breakfast. ||We were a little surprised when a coach load of pensioners arrived but seemingly this is not just a hostel for 'youth and families'! The new clientele were not rowdy at least!||We did not use the indoor pool but it looked very inviting . Maybe next time! ||We intended to scale the hill behind the Jufa to reach the wooden cross but it was just too hot after a long cycling...

Wir waren schon in vielen 3 Sterne Hotels, letztlich kommt das Jufa hier in Summe nicht mit, unseres Erachtens wären daher 2 Sterne fair und gerechtfertigt.

Für ein Familienhotel gibt es (bei Schlechtwetter) indoor für Kinder meines Erachtens zu wenige Möglichkeiten. Das Highlight ist das Schwimmbad, keine Frage. Darüber hinaus ist es jedoch mager. Die Kletterräume sind auf 40kg limitiert, was sich bei meinem Sohn knapp nicht mehr ausgeht. Im Gegensatz zu vielen anderen (älteren/schwereren) Kindern haben wir uns daran gehalten. Anfangs waren wir 3x pro Tag im Schwimmbad, später nur noch 2x weil nachmittags oft wild ins Pool gesprungen wurde (trotz unzähliger "Springen verboten" Schilder). Mein Sohn kann erst seit ca. 1 Jahr schwimmen und das war ihm einfach zu wild. Wir haben mitbekommen, dass die Bademeisterin 1x eingeschritten ist (bei Saltos usw.), ansonsten aber nicht reagiert hat.

Das Frühstück war "Standard", nichts Besonderes aber auch nicht schlecht. Etwas enttäuscht war ich, dass es nur Filterkaffee gab und keinen Automaten mit Cappuccino etc.

Das Abendessen war gut. Doch im Vergleich zu anderen (auch 3 Sterne Hotels) muss man jedoch Abstriche in Kauf nehmen: keine Saucen (wie z.B. Mayo, Cocktailsauce, Preiselbeeren, etc), kein Erdäpfelsalat (wohl ein Novum in Österreich, insbesondere wenn es Schnitzel gibt). Und was ich überhaupt nicht nachvollziehen konnte: keine Bestellmöglichkeit für Getränke (es gab Leitungswasser). Hier verzichtet das Hotel auf sichere Umsätze... eigenartig! Zumal wirklich jeder Gast verwundert war; sowas habe ich in einem Restaurant auch noch nie erlebt.

Auch erstaunlich: nirgends eine Information, was das Abendessen eigentlich kostet (weder online auffindbar, noch vor Ort). Nach dem Frühstück haben wir uns für das Abendessen an der Rezeption angemeldet - als wir dort nach dem Preis gefragt haben, kam als Antwort, dass sie es nicht genau weiß, aber es sei "günstig". Durchaus richtig, teuer wars nicht aber ich finde schon, dass im Vorhinein für den Gast klar ersichtlich sein sollte, wieviel zu bezahlen ist...

Das WLAN hat leider oft nicht funktioniert. Die Ursache ist auch klar: die 5GHz Frequenz hatte ein Problem ("kein Internet"). Da sich die Endgeräte (Notebooks, Tablets, Handys) immer zum vermeintlich "besten" Zugangspunkt einwählen, muss man Glück haben, die 2,4 GHz Frequenz zu erwischen. Ich hätte das gerne jemandem vor Ort kommuniziert, doch hatte ich nicht den Eindruck, dass es jemanden gibt, der wüsste, wovon ich da spreche. Kurzfristige Lösung für das Hotel wäre: 5GHz im Hotel-Router/AP deaktivieren! Langfristig ggfs. die Router/APs umkonfigurieren oder - wenn generell defekt - austauschen.

Im Zimmer hat meine Hausstauballergie sofort angeschlagen, eine große Quelle ist jedenfalls die Lüftung am WC - da quillt der Lurch durch den Schacht, vermutlich wurde dieser seit Bestehen nie gereinigt...

Der Zimmer-Safe hat leider nicht funktioniert (Error2 und lautes Piepen).

Where should I start? ||||This place looks like kids summer camps accommodation gone bad. Like an old, not upgraded hospital.||||The rooms have wooden boards mounted on the walls (dado rails) and painted BLUE! The beds are of the cheapest quality out there with cheap linen and bad pillows. The bathroom was horrible with horrible shower curtain. ||||We stayed there over Easter as we were visiting relatives. The breakfast they served was somewhat acceptable on the first day but the second day was barely anything served. There was no coffee so I went at the reception to ask if we can get any coffee with the breakfast and I was told I could but I had to carry it back to the dining place as the staff couldn’t be bothered to help. ||||All the staff (approx 10-12 people) were gathered at the lobby café having breakfast and chit chat and no one even cared about the guests….||||Horrible service and hotel!...
