A Deeply Disappointing Experience at Wyndham Baku
My stay at the Wyndham Baku from April 15th to April 17th was unfortunately marred by several incidents of unprofessionalism and neglect, falling significantly short of the standards one would expect from a hotel operating under the Wyndham banner. While the physical property may present well, the service culture encountered was profoundly lacking.
The most egregious incident involved a member of the room staff whose behaviour was utterly unacceptable. Following a shower, where some incidental water inevitably splashed onto the bathroom floor – a common occurrence in any bathroom – we were subjected to beratement from a staff member. Not only was the complaint itself unreasonable, but the staff member proceeded to express her displeasure in her local language in a manner that was clearly abusive and deeply disrespectful. This lack of basic courtesy and understanding from hotel staff is simply inexcusable.
Further compounding the negative experience was the service, or lack thereof, at the swimming pool. Despite multiple polite requests, the female staff member attending the pool area persistently refused to provide towels. This resulted in the considerable inconvenience and frankly, harassment, of having to return to our room, retrieve our own towels, and trek back to the pool area. Such basic amenities should be readily available and provided courteously at a facility like a hotel swimming pool.
Adding to these specific incidents was a consistent oversight in basic room amenities. Despite our room being occupied by three guests, we were routinely provided with only two sets of towels. Rectifying this required repeated requests daily, highlighting a systemic issue with attention to detail and guest preparedness within the housekeeping department.
Overall, our stay was characterized by frustrating encounters with staff and a distinct lack of guest-centric service. The unprofessional conduct, particularly the abusive language from room staff and the deliberate withholding of amenities like pool towels, created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment. Based on this experience, I cannot, in good conscience, recommend the Wyndham Baku and would strongly advise potential guests to consider other accommodation options where professional courtesy and guest comfort are...
Read moreWe - 3 ladies went to the spa centre of the hotel today. While two of us were sitting in the lobby and waiting for our third friend to arrive, one of the managers approached us and introduced a staff member and said that she will take care of our orders. We asked if we could order tea to the lobby while we were waiting for our friend, specified green and black tea that we wanted. Some half an hour later, when our friend finally arrived but our tea still did not, we told the hotel staff about it and to our surprise we were told that were never ordered any tea!! That was amazing! We tried to refresh their memory but they continued resisting and finally we were ready to forget everything in order to save our day. But when we came to the reception to pick up the towels, they started teasing us by saying " we are shocked that you say that you ordered tea half an hour ago". We asked that manager lady cames, hoping that she will remember, but she send us a " message" that she was busy but we never ordered any tea. This is a terrible, unprofessional hotel. In any other hotel with professional staff such a small incident could be handled so easily, just with the smile in the face and apologies that most probably there was misunderstanding. But these ladies were just trying to prove us that were were lying. We left and I dont recommend to spend any money...
Read moreThis was a very bad stay from the day we arrived. On day 1 We were given a room that did not have a half of the curtains and people could see inside. The room was not cleaned and the worst part about it was the status of the bathroom which was full of mould. Horrible and completely unacceptable!! We were shown 3 other rooms and they all had the same issue. All the kettles in all these rooms were bad inside and I mean whoever uses those kettles which are not descaled is a hazard to your health be careful!! The bed sheets were never changed we noticed on the second day a blood stain and that was even after the Housekeeper was in the room to clean. They didn’t clean anything they folded the duvet and left, all the dirty plates, half bottled used water, and everything else we left in the room was untouched. I mean I just need to warn you if you stay here don’t expect 5 star this is a 2 star hotel and the staff are completely unaware how to deal with guests. Shocking! They don’t know hospitality at all especially. There was no sign of management anywhere, the hotel is in serious need of change from management to refurbishment. Stay away there’s much better hotels to visit in Baku, infact the 3 and 4 stars are much better than this. It’s a shame because Wyndham is a well known brand. There goes your...
