If you need a place to go for a relaxing getaway this is the place. My husband and I stayed here for 5 days. We were greeted with the wonderful scent of peppermint misting from the diffuser which gave a spa like experience. The grounds and accommodations were beautiful. The "casitas" which is what these cute cottages are called was very nicely decorated, simple, clean and comfortable. The resort is very private. The rooms are bright and sunny. The bed was super comfortable. You can hear the ocean which is just a few steps away from the casita. Mika's is located on the Atlantic side of Eleuthera. The water is a little rough depending on the time of day you go in but does not take away from enjoying the water. Just make sure you are an excellent swimmer. If you want calmer water just take a short drive down the road to the Caribbean side. The casita is equipped with a coffee maker(Keurig), a toaster and a small refrigerator to keep drinks cool. There is also an a/c and a ceiling fan. Free wifi is available and TV with Netflix. The room also has two small safes to keep your valuables. They were new and not yet secured to the shelf but I am certain Mika took care of that already. If you want to cook there is a grill and a communal kitchen in the main building. Restaurants are close to resort. A rental car is recommended to get around. I didn't have any issues with mosquitos, biting black flies or no-see-ums which are tiny biting gnats. They usually come out more often in the early morning and late evening. The ocean breeze usually blows them away BUT bring repellant regardless as they are still there. Mika is very responsive if you have any issues. Samia who took care of our reservation and checked us in was also readily available on site or by phone. Download "what's app" to communicate with everyone. Mika's is not a typical resort hotel so you will not have daily housekeeping. If you need to change linens you can leave them in the main house laundry bin and clean linens are readily available. Overall it was a enjoyable stay and I recommend that you book your next...
Read moreThe ONLY reason for the "4 stars" is because of the bugs. Namely the sand flies. They are everywhere, not just at Mika's. BRING BUG SPRAY!
The resort itself was AMAZING. My wife an I had the entire resort to ourselves. The accommodations were perfect for the getaway we were looking for. Staying at Mika's was like the Honeymoon we never had and after 17 years it felt like a new relationship. It was so peaceful listening to the sound of the waves crash and so relaxing just lounging in the sun on the deck at the beach.
The staff is not intrusive yet very communicative through "Whatsapp". We were checked in by Samia and given a very informative tour that lasted about 10 minuets. She walked us to our room and that was the last we saw of her. We felt as if we lived there. When the propane ran out we messaged Samia and it was taken care of in about 30 minuets.
There is a community kitchen where you can cook for an army. extra food is left by past guests which really help when you forget something from the grocery store.
This place would be perfect for a family reunion as it housed 8 guest in separate bungalows as well as 2 more in the penthouse of the main building.
There is a beach bar, The Deck, that is about a 2 minuet walk from the main building. Pretty good food but the owner is a little weird. fun guy but weird.
Get a rental car. There is a ton of things to see on the island and you will need one to go grocery shopping. Governor's Harbor is 9KM up the queens Highway.
Th resort kitty is pretty awesome. Super friendly and loves attention.
I can only think of a few improvements.
If you are fully booked you are going to need more lounge chairs. Maybe look at adding an outdoor shower or foot wash at the top of the stairs. We tracked A LOT of sand into our room.
Over all our stay was incredible. It really was 5 stars but those DAMN flies. I would defiantly stay again. I feel like our marriage was truly renewed and I feel closer to my...
Read moreFirst, as a marketing consultant for a vacation villa rental company in the Virgin Islands, the minor inconveniences of island living are not foreign to me. It's important to note that this is not a "resort" (it's 5 units and you're own your own), it is located mid-island away from most everything, and it is NOT kid-friendly due to a number of safety issues. Be prepared to get ice and groceries before settling in. Call restaurants before assuming they are open.
PROS: Beach is better than most. You'll feel like you have the place to yourselves. Property is clean. Staff responds promptly via WhatsApp. CONS: A few minor fixes would drastically improve the property. Fix missing deck railings; put the handle back on the sliding door of the shared space; fix stair lights; bolt down room safes (doesn't do any good if someone can walk away with it!); keep adequate basics on hand such as paper towels, bath towels, ice trays, pitcher, etc. No one paying for a penthouse should be buying their own paper towels. This is not a Motel 6 so these items seems like a no-brainer. Having someone on-site part of every day would be helpful for suggestions on where to go, who's open, etc. Penthouse has 2 mini-fridges but one doesn't work; and one mini-freezer which holds nothing more than a bag of ice and a broken ice tray. The flowers picked off the property to freshen up the room were dead.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Cravings is an affordable, delicious breakfast option. Pascal's next door has a great pool, bar and food. Sammy makes the best goombay smash drinks ever. Be prepared for a bumpy entrance road. La Bougainvillea has a wonderful breakfast with poolside dining and a lovely beach. The Deck next door supposedly has good cheeseburgers if you can...
