Hillside Resort, Milonchhori — Hotel in Chattogram Division

WOULD NOT RECCOMEND FOR FOREIGN TOURISTS.

Our Chittagong accomodation had arranged a permit through the owner of Hillside Resort (Mr. Royal).

On arrival we found the accomodation unsuitable, mainly due to my wife being pregnant at the time. Rooms were not protected from mosquitos, no hot water, not enough lighting, dirty, no available food etc etc.

We advised Mr Royal that we would seek accomodation at the Sairu Hill Resort 20 minutes up the road, and thanked him for his time. My Royal then insisted the local police would not allow this, demanding that we attend the local police station to change the accomodation on our permit.

We drove down to the local police, Mr Royal hounding us the whole time on his motorbike. Once there it became clear that the police were involved in Mr Royals corrupt dealings.

Mr Royal and the police attempted to strong arm us into staying at Hillside, at this point we decided to return to Chittagong at once. Mr Royal then demanded we cover his expenses (we didn’t).

As a foreign visitor to Bangledesh this experience was an outlier. The people of Bangledesh are it’s strongest commodity. Unfortunately Mr Royal is not one of those good people, and he would do well to consider how his actions may impact upon future Western tourists interest in his below average accomodation.

Hillside Resort is situated at 4 kilometer away from Bandarban town on Chimbuk road. The area is named as Milonchori. Hillside Resort has pleasant accommodation facilities for 50 persons in various categories like single bed, double bed, triple bed and quartet bed. They have also a restaurant name as RESTORA RIGRRE KHYANG. Hillside Resort has five nice cottages with three are fully air conditioned including a tribal house and a dormitory. All cottages and houses have attached bathrooms with hot water and other facilities. They are able to mange local guide for tourists and also provide vehicle services for movements.
