Simply Incredible! Grand Sylhet Hotel
Grand Sylhet is a highly successful Probashi investment project in Sylhet. Seeing is believing—unless you see it physically, you would not believe it. This 5-star hotel project was led by the dynamic young Ali M Zakaria. When he started this project, we supported him; I was then the editor of Janomot Newsweekly. Zakaria was ambitious and determined to complete the project, though it took some time due to various challenges. Often, we have negative impressions of Probashi investments in Bangladesh, but this project has turned that around with positive results. Ali M Zakaria, the chairman of the group, is a dynamic young businessman with a clear vision and a strong supporter of Bengali media in the UK. He is also a life member of the London Bangla Press Club.
The hotel is situated in a beautiful location near the Manlichacra tea gardens, Sylhet Cricket pitch, and just three minutes from Osmani International Airport. After its completion, I visited Sylhet a few times but didn't have the opportunity to visit this luxurious hotel until last May, during the school half-term. My wife and I decided to visit Sylhet for nine days and chose to stay at Grand Sylhet. It was also convenient for sorting out some personal land issues in Sylhet and Moulavibazar.
I contacted Ali M Zakaria and informed him of our plans to stay at his hotel. He was pleased and arranged everything for us. We were given an executive room with an additional seating area and a double balcony. The view was incredible—we could see planes landing and taking off every hour and enjoyed the lovely greenery. Simply beautiful.
My heartfelt thanks to Zakaria for everything. Everything was arranged flawlessly.
The weather during that time in Sylhet was between 35 to 40 degrees Celsius—unbearable, but staying inside the hotel was something special. The hotel has various excellent facilities, including a few nice restaurants, a spa, a swimming pool, a cinema screen, and several good shops. I took the opportunity to use almost all their facilities to understand their quality, customer care, cleanliness, hygiene standards, and staff behavior. I must say that every corner of the hotel I visited, I was greeted with respect and a warm welcome. We were extremely impressed. I won't compare the Grand Sylhet with any other hotel in Bangladesh, as it is unique in its own style.
My incredible experience would say if you want to visit Sylhet with your kids or family, please do stay at Grand Sylhet. They will love it and will want to return again and again, ensuring a calm and relaxing stay. In Sha Allah, if I go back to Sylhet again, I will surely stay there again. Simply, I love it.
My sincere gratitude to all the staff for their professional customer approach and friendly service with a smile.

Read moreWent there on several occasions.... They have a hookah lounge and a Cineplex... The area is quite good and secure. The overall complex was clean and gave off quite the posh aura in the case of ambience and environment... However they are simply using their status as a 5-star hotel to bump up the prices of various condiments.... Even Water which is around 15 taka outside is around 55+tk in there... I understand you have service charge and VAT included however the price hike is far too much.... Food item combinations that would be regularly priced at around 10tk piece (overall 50-60tk) goes up to an overall 299++ (vat+sc) tk.... This is basically just robbing people in broad daylight, especially since the food or even the water is nothing special... Its simply the same water that you'd get from the dept. store just outside the hotel area. And the hookah is priced at 2000taka which is doable considering not many places have these anymore, however the main issue was that the flavour was not as strong as I have had in other places, and the service was quite delayed for absolutely no reason whatsoever... Furthermore, The Cineplex tickets are overpriced as well coming in at around 500-600tk for a Cineplex that does NOT have Surround sound, only stereo speakers meaning if you're sitting towards the right your right ear will hear more and if you're sitting to the left of the hall your left ear will get more of the sound.... The ticket price cannot be justified with such sound quality either... They really need to bring in Directional Surround sound for better immersion like the Cineplex in Dhaka... Also we had 4 small popcorns and 9 small drinks and it cost us around 2.5k taka.... While money is not really an issue, I figured that from the same amount of money we'd get much greater amount of food in Dhaka Star Cineplex... The managers in there seemed to have a sort of a superiority complex always trying to herd the people towards a direction as if we might steal something lol. Doesn't hurt to smile at the people that are literally paying for the whole thing... Quite a disappointing experience tbh. Tips for the authorities: Lower your prices of food products to a more accurate and considerable level so that people don't have to scoff infront of you and say you guys are robbing them, a price hike is definitely understandable considering the status as a 5-star hotel, but currently it is too much. Bring proper Dolby Surround Sound to the Cineplex for better immersion. Remove the watermark from your cinemas, no one is going to steal your shows! You don't have to bombard the whole movie with your Grand Sylhet Hotel & Resort watermark... It is very annoying and distracting because it comes up at the most random and intense times and that too places on the screen which really distracts you from the whole movie...
Read moreThis the only 5 star hotel in Sylhet city and Airport hotel. It about 600 -700 meters from Osmani International Airport, Sylhet. However, it is located far from the heart of Sylhet city and most of the tourist attractions. Although the hotel offers shuttle bus services from airport to hotel and reverse way, it doesn't offer same services for Sylhet city. The tourists and travelers would have been benefited if shuttle bus services were there. The hotel building has a nice architectural design from outside though total land area is not huge. Hotel entrance and reception are well decorated and nicely maintained. There are expensive gift shops next to the reception; a Cafe is also located. I stayed in an ordinary room with a king size bed. The room was facilitated with all modern facilities such as a small refrigerator, free tea-coffee, Big television with all paid channels. The bathroom has all necessary toiletries excepy hairdryer and razor. The hotel has two restaurants ( Signature restaurant and Smokey Grill restaurant). The signature restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. So does Smokey Grill though it serves grilled items additionally. In breakfast the Signature restaurant serves Oats, porridge, Bosnian bread, varieties of breads and jams, butter and cheese, noodles, sausages, chicken items, mutton paya, Kichdi, vegetables, fruits, juice, tea- coffee and many more. In buffet lunch it serves sushi, different types of salads; Indian style rice , biriyani, vegetables, beef, mutton, chicken; Bangladeshi fishes and curries; thai style soups, noodles; American style chicken, beef, wedges; Mongolian beef. In dinner it serves similar food with different preparation. All food items are delicious especially Grilled items, Mongolian beef, Rice akhni were truly delicious. There is swimming pool and a jacuzzi located on the 9th floor; a gym is also there; poolside area offers buffet dinner with grilled items and live music. The hotel has a modern movie theatre inside that shows latest Indian Bangladeshi and Hollywood movies. The hotel had two big conference rooms with all facilities. The staffs are very cordial and professional. The rent of room is too high and all food and non-food items are costly. There are free parking spaces in front of the hotel. Outside the hotel is a rural and village areas. Nonetheless, the area was safe. Overall the hotel is clean, neat and tidy. I had a great experience here...
