I rented the 2 cottages and a B&B room for one week in August, for a total capacity of 28 people. The cottages and rooms are spacious and beautiful, in the middle of a natural reserve, therefore very quiet and peaceful.||In general our guests found the place welcoming and charming, but our guests did not have to deal with the owner and his wife who happened to be tricky neighbours. Upon arrival the place was cold and many kitchen utensils were dirty (we were told the cleaners were off sick or depressed! not acceptable for this standard and price). I had to go to the local store and buy all basic cleaning products and sponges (the ones there were full of food and disgusting). The owner told us we could not use his wood since he kept it for himself for the winter, and the heating was not working during the summer. My wife, my parents and I found ourselves cleaning the place till 1am, with blankets on our shoulders, before our guests start arriving the day after.||One morning some cows were pasturing in the nearby pasture, which we all found amusing (they were very close to the cottage). The owner came to me and accused me of having opened the gate and let the cows all over the place. After much threat and unpleasant discussions (he even yelled at furiously me in front of my guests), I was obliged to clean up the cow poohs all over his garden to avoid him charging me huge amounts as compensation to clean his garden. I cleaned up the garden with my dad the day before my wedding, which was not a pleasant experience, especially given that I had nothing to do with this.||Finally, the rental cost is in itself reasonable, but there are numerous hidden costs and long list of add-ons. After adding utilities, taxes, towel and sheet rental, etc this adds up to another 30-35% of rental cost, be mindful of that.||So in summary I would say a beautiful place, but one that would be so much more pleasant without the owners. The B&B are great and much less work, but the cottages are tricky if you come from abroad (you need to buy everything, such as salt, oil... if you want to cook once). And for me personally who paid for all this, not a place I would recommend as all these unpleasant and aggressive discussions ruined my...
Read moreWe spent three nights here over Easter 2013. The buildings are beautiful and in a pretty setting with lovely views. The property is a bit 'off the beaten track' and up a relatively steep unmade road - worth considering if you are a nervous driver after dark!||||We stayed in one of the rooms in the main house ('the barn') and given a choice chose the room with an ensuite bathroom. If you are averse to walking a short distance along the hallway to access a private bathroom and toilet, it is worth requesting the other room when you book.||||No problems with the room, bed or bathroom.||||Breakfast was good, with homemade pancakes, cheese, jams, boiled eggs on request), homemade yoghurt and bread.||||We had dinner in the house one night with another couple staying: if meeting new people is your thing, you'll enjoy this opportunity. Likewise, the hosts are very friendly so be prepared for a few chats! This is not a B&B for people who don't want any human contact.||||The meal was good, though not exceptional, but if you have more than one night in the region it is a convivial alternative to driving to one of the nearby villages for dinner.||||If you like dogs, you will enjoy the company of the hosts' two border collies and cat, though if you are not keen on animals inside the house (including kitchen and dining room) you may wish to look elsewhere. These are very friendly dogs!||||Overall, La Ferme de l'Airbois comes recommended. This property has been a labour of love for the hosts and it really shows in their warm...
