My husband and I just spent 3 nights at Kane Villas in the charming Mahalo House. As we drove onto the site we were immediately impressed by the beautiful and well kept grounds. Attention to detail is evident throughout, and we truly enjoyed our stay. Mahalo House is the original home on the property, complete with fully screened wrap around porch where we enjoyed taking some of our meals, and lounging in the hammock. There are storm doors you can close up if you wish, but we enjoyed the easy breezy feel and left them open the whole time. The master bedroom and large sleeping loft are accessed off the kitchen, and the only bathroom is on the main floor at one end of the screened in porch. Just a warning to those with bad knees, the stairs are sturdy, but steep, so if this is an issue you will want to book one of the other, newer, one level villas on site. The kitchen is well equipped and there’s a bbq and fireplace on the large covered deck. The full time caretaker on site lit a fire by the pool, as well as mosquito coils each evening to keep the bugs at bay which was most appreciated. We loved the salt water pool and made use of the beautiful large BBQ on the pool deck. The king bed in the master bedroom is very comfortable, and we loved the private balcony overlooking the gardens. Our host, Catherine, and her husband whose name I didn’t catch were wonderful and went above and beyond to help us and make our stay comfortable.|We travelled with friends who stayed in the Mango Villa and absolutely loved their room, and everything at Kane Villas exceeded all our expectations. Two big thumbs up! This place is Fantastic and one of the best experiences we’ve had in all...
Read moreWe traveled here for a 3 day stay with our 15 and 11 year old and stayed in the Mahalo house. We were initially a little jolted by just how rural and rustic it is, but fell in love with the house and the quiet, rural landscape by the end. There is nothing nearby so be sure you’ve stopped in San Ignacio for gas and plenty of groceries! There are two lodges, Blancaneaux and Gaia, that have restaurants. We came during low season so not everything was open and we were the only guests at the time. It’s clean and beautiful! Our kids enjoyed the pool and we loved how close it was to so many of the adventures that Cayo has to offer- Caracol, Rio on Pools, etc. The owners take a lot of care and the groundskeeper, Owen, was very knowledgeable, hospitable and attentive- he’s just great! On our last day our kids had eaten through our remaining food and the owners who happened to be popping in gave us a bucket of the freshest eggs! The kitchen is well stocked with all the cookware and utensils you need, plus they had plenty of coffee. The beds and linens were very comfortable and they provided a few large fans which kept things very cool at night. They were installing lights in the pool the day we left and it’s evident they are working very hard to maintain and expand the peaceful, beautiful grounds. This is not a luxury stay but a quiet, comfortably rustic stay in nature which it turns out is exactly what we needed! We hope to stay again someday but will avoid the rainy season- on the islands October is still full of sunshine, but in the mountains rain can mean...
