WOW, words cannot describe how AMAZING this place is! Bar none this is the best place we've ever been to. WAY better than Sandals etc.! The ultimate spot for a wedding too! It was perfect for our group of 20. We wanted a place that was less restrictive than Sandals, and had more to offer and less people. This checked every single box and blew past in every way!!||-The island: Absolutely stunning! The perfect size, just enough for everything you need. Nice and clean and well kept (they had staff raking sand and cleaning daily). Not just palm trees, but all sorts of tropical trees, plants, and flowers. Before we came we were worried it could be a bit small, and worried about shade, but it couldn't have been more perfect. Breathtaking Caribbean sunsets and crystal clear water.||- Accommodations: We had every type of room booked between our group (excluding the honeymoon suite) and they were ALL great. Good quality, nice strong AC (mini splits), clean, and FANTASTIC views! The villa rooms literally had full corner slide open glass doors. Our only wish is that they had some drying racks for wet clothes (we ended up stringing up a clothes line). The water was fine to drink too. If there's a few of you, Id highly recommend renting out the whole villa.||-Staff: We've never been ones who got too familiar with staff on vacations, and we never really gave much thought to reviews that mentioned staff by name...... but now we completely understand why all of the reviews mention people by name! |The sheer hospitality and friendliness of the staff is enough to make you rethink ever going to a place like sandals ever again. The staff were AMAZING!!!! A few somehow managed to get all 20 of our names memorized within a day or two. Between cracking jokes, and putting up with our shenanigans, the staff put this place on an untouchable level.|Thanks to American Airlines, our flights in were a disaster (I recommend flying Delta), but Dasha and John helped scramble to help get our group to the island WAY after hours (we got to the island at 2am), and despite this, still were up to greet us! Wow! ||- Snorkeling: AMAZING House reef snorkeling! This was a huge factor for me when I searched for places. I wanted a place without roped borders like Sandals etc (fantastic quality coral and marine life) You can snorkel unlimited freely around the entire island. You can also easily and comfortably night snorkel too. The dock has blue lights which attract fish and make getting in the water a bit easier.|Snorkeling around the island, we saw lobster, crabs, small and large rays, barracuda, nurse sharks, squid, lion fish, urchins, puffer fish, moray eels, shrimp, full schools of fish, the list goes on! We also did a 4 stop (Ranguana, Silk, Laughing bird + lunch on Moho Caye) which was awesome and the food Delicious! |The quality of the rental snorkel gear was ok. But those of us who brought a good quality mask and a snorkel with a check valve were very glad they did. Their fins are barefoot (but Id advise wearing socks if you use them to prevent blisters). We brought our own gear and were glad. We also brought nice bright dive lights (blue too) that made the coral glow on the night snorkeling and were really happy we did.||-Scuba: VERY good!! We went on a 2 tank dive on a rough day (bring dramamine if you get seasick!) and they were nice enough to let us get some surface time on the island instead of the boat between dives. The wall dive was excellent, great visibility, several nurse sharks tagged along like adorable dogs following us around, the dive master let us spear fish some of the lion fish and feed the nurse sharks and eels which was awesome! The second dive in the flats was decent, but the wall dive was much better. Still both good with great marine life.|Their dive gear was pretty decent, Id say upper average. Sherwood BCDs and regs. We didn't have any problems with leaks or poor quality. A few needed standard weight belts, a few had pockets which we put weights in.||-Weddings: FANTASTIC place for weddings! SOO much better than doing it stateside. We did ours there with a group of 20 and it was absolutely perfect. Lab Weddings handled everything and they did a perfect job! the wedding in the sunset on the island was as picturesque as it could possibly be. 10/10 would recommend!!||- Bioluminescence: If you time it right (3-4 nights after full moon) you can actually catch bioluminescence! shortly after full sunset, the water comes alive with little glowing dots. You can also snorkel with it and swish your hands for the water to glow. It only lasts for about 10 minutes, but we saw it 4/5 nights we were there.||-Food: MIND BLOWING!!! How they managed to make such good food on such a small island is beyond me. Every. Single. Thing. was absolutely amazing. in the full week we were there, not one thing was bad. Some of the best food we've ever had in our lives. They even had multiple different options each night. |We got the meal plan (an absolute MUST!). Before the trip we were worried about being hungry between meals and wanting snacks, and this was absolutely not a problem at all. We also were worried about meal items that wouldn't be covered- also not a problem at all. More than enough options to choose from!||-Drinks: We also got the drink plan (again, ABSOLUTELY worth it) and the drinks were also excellent!! We were again worried about the non-covered items being something we would have to pay close attention to; totally not a problem. A large majority of fantastic drinks of all sorts are covered. If you want to order one that isn't part of the plan, they'll let you know it's off plan, and the super friendly bar tenders will make sure you're taken care of regardless. ||- Excursions/extras: All were VERY reasonably priced. We did Scuba, Snorkeling, the Monkey River tour, and a few even got massages. All well worth it. On the monkey river tour we saw the howler monkeys, leaf cutter ant trails, and even a tarantula, then stopped in Placencia on the way back. The girls really liked the massages. I wish we had more time to do some more scuba and snorkeling!||-Weather/Bugs- We brought lots of bug spray, but on the island it was completely unnecessary. We were there in mid March which may have helped, but there were zero bugs on the island then. The monkey river tour did have a good bit of mosquitos so if you do that, bring long sleeves and bug spray.|The weather the first two days was absolutely perfect. We got some rain and clouds the second two days, but were still able to have plenty of fun and still went scuba diving. At no point were we EVER without anything to do, even with the rain. |With the rough water, some of the boat rides can get to those with sea sickness problems, so bring dramamine if you do. Temperature and humidity were perfect and about what you'd expect.||Overall, this truly set the bar!!! Between everyone in our group, this was by a large margin the best trip for everyone. We've been to Jamaica, Turks and Caicos, Grenada, etc, and this was better than any of them, and for a super reasonable price. Now that we're back home we all can't stop talking about how much we want to go back. We will ABSOLUTELY be coming back, and we recommend this place to everyone we meet!!! ||Thanks to Dasha, John, Benjamin, JR, Yanik, Noah, and everyone else who made for the PERFECT vacation...
Read moreBreathtakingly amazing & luxurious… This place is what the dictionary should use for the definition of “exclusive island resort”.
About Us: My family stopped by Ray Caye when we chartered a sailboat from the Moorings in Belize, and we anchored inside the breakwaters for a super-tight yet well-protected anchorage that pretty much only a local captain could pull off. I used to work the front desk and guest services in a 4 star/4 diamond resort in my early 20's when I took a semester off from college, and I tend to be pretty picky about my accommodations when it comes to resorts.
Food & Fun: The pier, pool, beach, resort grounds, restaurant & bar were all top-notch. We didn't see inside any rooms (they were fully booked), but they were absolutely pristine from the outside. We had dinner and breakfast on the island, and the menu was deeper than any other island we visited. The staff were super friendly and high-caliber and many spoke Spanish as well. The beach was somewhat small, but had lots of seating/picnic tables… and you didn’t feel “crowded” in any sense of the word. The slide was a great thrill for my son. (With the permission of a staff member, we waited until there weren’t any guests using it and snuck out so my son could use it a couple times.)
Diving Center: We don’t dive, but the diving center was better apportioned than anything else we saw on our trip. A great place to plan your dive out of.
Unique & Beautiful: This was the one place everyone on our charter all agreed we'd spend an additional day at in the future when we return… if they are still open to sailboat charters anchoring inside their breakwaters. My parents both said they would consider staying at Ray Caye for the week if the rest of the family were going to charter a sailboat after they lose their sea legs when they are older, too, so long as we promised to anchor out for a couple days.
The island just really captivated us... a truly beautiful little island resort, and a great place to stay for an upscale remote...
Read moreRay Caye provided us with an amazing vacation! We went for a week and were blown away by the hospitality and service. The island was as beautiful and picturesque as what we had seen on their website and socials. The food in particular was 5 stars. It far exceeded our expectations. They curate a different menu every day. The island is located between all the best places for any activity you could want. We were able to go on snorkeling and fly fishing excursions. But we able to do these things right off the island as well. They had ocean kayaks and paddle boards available for free. I brought one of my fly rods and caught my first bonefish right in front of the island. I hooked a massive permit as well. They were able to arrange for us to get a guide who had 30 years of fly fishing experience and we spent a day on the flats and going between islands. We caught a ton of fish and more importantly the guide was able to teach us quite a bit about saltwater fly fishing. |We went snorkeling at silk caye and were able to snorkel through reefs with many different species. We were able to see loggerhead turtles, reef sharks, eagle rays, and so much more. They have a great nighttime light setup to allow for night snorkeling as well. We were able to snorkel at night in schools of giant migratory tarpon, rays, and permit. |The rooms on the island were clean and modern, with an AC unit that worked quite well. The island also has a fitness center so I was able to keep up with my workouts. There are also two pools on opposite sides of the island. There was plenty of space, even with a wedding party and lots of families that we never felt crowded. |Above all, the hospitality from the staff was amazing, and we felt cared for and right at home. We will definitely be back and would recommend Ray Caye to anyone else looking for a an adventure...
