The Ultimate Uber Cool Dream Vacation Destination, aka, Perfection Done Right: A Modern Fairy Tale You all know the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. This is too big, this is too small, but THIS is JUST right, in fact, it's perfect. That sums up Little Harvest Caye. Affectionately known as LHC. Just the right size for a great family, or fun couples, vacation. Big enough for up to 12, but small enough it's not overwhelming. Five bungalows with their own bath on a private island, all to yourselves. It's not too near the town of Placencia, where you can see the town and hear it. Nor is it too far out to sea that you're stuck out there. Some islands are so far out in the Caribbean that it makes doing inland tours difficult. Who wants to get up at 5AM on vacation?! LHC is perfect. Private, yet close. Go explore the cute shops in the quaint town of Placencia, which is only a five minute boat ride away. Want to try a restaurant, or get some Tutti Frutti Gelato (the best!) you can! LHC is surrounded by water, peace and tranquility, nothing but the wind, waves, moon, stars, sunshine and zero neighbors. You don't have to share the island with strangers, where you rent one bungalow and someone else rents one, as does another, like on some other "private islands". On LHC, it is just you and the lucky ones you've chosen to join. Other islands, you might have to pay extra for a chef. LHC comes with. Do NOT pass up the opportunity to eat as many meals as you can with Chef Ernesto. His culinary skills are epic, Michelin star all the way! The staff is super nice, friendly and helpful. The ratio of staff to guest is about 1:2. Try and find that in a hotel. Pack light, your laundry gets done regularly, how awesome is that? The rooms and baths are clean and beautiful. Not too slick, not too rough, a perfect blend of tropical elegance, comfort, and style. It's just right. Open air bathrooms are the most wonderful experience ever. The island is lush and tropical, with beautiful palms, exotic plants and flowers. The main living area under the stunning giant palapa, with its fabulous, fun swing chairs and comfy seating, is great for games and conversation. The carved wood table and bar need to be seen in person to fully appreciate their artistry. Lounging in the sparkling pool with a cold exotic fruity concoction is beyond relaxing. Comfortable beds, the cool breezes, and the sound of wind and waves through the screen doors create an environment for some of the deepest and most restful sleep we've ever had, yet we woke early to see the sunrise out the window. Want to do excursions? Check. Do nothing, except relax in the pool and enjoy the beauty of the island? Check. Have a massage and do wine tasting? Check. Want to go snorkeling, fishing, sailing, or do any of the numerous excursions that are available? You can! Explore the town? You can do all that too. LHC is not an all inclusive, so you get to choose what you want, when you want, with what interests you and not some random choices that someone else has chosen for you. LHC is SO much cooler in person. SO much greater than a manufactured Mouse World vacation. SO much more private and relaxing than a hotel, or cruise ship. SO much better than any "all inclusive" where you don't have a choice as to what is "included". SO much more exclusive than any slick, high-end resort with strangers. SO much finer than any branded, artificially created island where you have "experiences" with inflated prices and the STREET CRED you will gain with your kids? Priceless. On LHC it is just you and those you've chosen to join you on this very special tropical gem. Truly a PRIVATE island! We realized that the cost of this vacation, including food, alcohol brought in from the duty free shop in the airport, massages and excursions, cost the same, or even less(!) than a high end hotel, so we are planning a return. A luxury experience for less. Do the math, then book it and get ready to make some great memories! Finding more reasons to return. Anniversaries, birthdays, reunions, LHC is...
Read moreWOW!! Everyone please read their response! What I thought was terrible before I now am completely disgusted!! More lies and more complete disregard for the health and well being of their clients! Buyer beware!! This management group could CARE LESS about you!! There was no broken leg- his legs were the only thing that didn't break! He had to be airlifted out to the United States as they couldn't treat his injuries in Belize they were so bad. This management group just continues to lie - they just keep trying to cover themselves and dig their hole deeper. There was no intoxication but nice try again blaming the client. What horrible disgusting people this group is!! This was a 76 and 79 year old active, fit, and healthy married couple trying to go to their bedroom on slick and narrow stairs. Her full foot didn't fit on the narrow step, and with the slick part, she lost her footing. In his attempt to catch her fall- he fell down the entire flight. He was not drunk and did not have a broken leg you awful people!!! HE WAS ALMOST DEAD!! 9 broken ribs- lung contusions- fluid in his lungs. We reached multiple times over the course of several months trying to get help. Everytime all they wanted to keep saying is they have no blame- no fault. Never once asked how our family member was doing and you can see by their disgusting response they couldn't care less if he lived or died as long as they were paid! I was just posting here, but after their heartless and disgusting response and complete lack of care and disregard I will be posting EVERYWHERE I can find. SHAME SHAME ON YOU!
The island itself was great. The staff that worked there were great. Unfortunately- the steps leading up to the rooms are slippery and narrow- not allowing much room for your foot and if it has rained or you are wet they are slick. We were a group of 12 people. On our last night one in our party fell down 6 concrete stairs going up to his room and broke the entire left side of his body. 9 broken ribs- contusions on his lungs- he is lucky to be alive. This is where management absolutely is terrible. They never once wanted to help- didn't want to ask how he was, didn't want to assume any responsibility or lend a hand in anyway. They completely washed their hands of us. According to staff- a a woman the week before us also fell badly and had to be airlifted from the mainland. The week before that - a staff member fell and broke her foot on the same stairs. The place refutes this and even went so far to threaten that they would fire the staff that told us that these same things had happened several times previously and that the staff member was lying. They had no reason to lie to us. They were the only good part about the people that work for this company. It was an absolute nightmare to get help that night. Thank god another staff member happened to have a brother that was a paramedic that they called for us, and after 2 hours of our family member laying on the cement ground unable to move- we were able to get the ambulance to the mainland. Even though the management will tell you they have protocol for this sort of thing- the staff had no idea what to do in this situation. Had this staff member not had a brother that helped- our family member would have died that night. And the management would have said so sad too bad. We had two rooms that went empty that night as we raced our family member to the hospital. Never did Gecko vacations offer to help in anyway, refund anything- credit anything. All they kept responding with is that they are completely unliable and unresponsible and it's our problem and that their staff is lying and this has never happened before. They were rude and had zero feeling for the health of our family. As long as we had paid our bill- they were done with us. After spending over $25,000 with them- a little gesture of something would have gone a long way. I would never go back and I would warn everyone to proceed with caution and know that if something goes wrong- you are on your...
Read moreThis island is absolute Heaven and it all starts with the people that work there. The chef’s Ernesto and Daniel create the most delicious plates of food I have ever tasted. I’ve never had lobster that tasted so wonderful…ever! You will never go hungry there, as there is always food being served. They make a huge amount of coffee in the morning and already had flavored creamer for us. The manager Miguel, who also drives the boat back and forth, is the funniest person I’ve ever met. He kept us on our toes all week and had us laughing until it hurt. Jose takes care of the property and is so happy to help with anything that you need. We brought blow up rafts for the pool and he spent time blowing them up for us on the first day. Cindy is who cleans the rooms daily and is so nice, I just wanted to take her home! They have everything that you can imagine on the island. Including WiFi, books, movies, bluetooth surround sound music, cards, games, pool table, ping pong table, darts, horseshoes, corn hole, volleyball net for the pool, lounge chairs everywhere, kayaks and paddle boats to name a few. They also set up a family movie night with a huge blow up screen and projector along with tons of popcorn. The kids loved it! If we mentioned something that we were shopping for, they found a way to get it for us from town and at a great price. The rooms are fantastic and the bathrooms are so amazing. Taking a shower while looking at the ocean was unbelievable! The kitchen and common areas were constantly being cleaned and our bedding and clothes that were washed smelled amazing. Going into town is beautiful also. The locals are so friendly and wave as you drive by in the golf cart. We enjoyed the Tipsy Tuna and the Barefoot Landing for food and drinks while in town. We took the Captain Jack’s zip line, raft and waterfall excursion and it was worth every penny. We booked through Talia before we came to the island and it made the transaction so smooth. The family had a great day and we all felt completely safe. You can purchase alcohol at the duty free store in the Belize airport and mixers at the local supermarket. The imported alcohol at the supermarket is too expensive, but the native alcohol is the right price and just as good. We loved it so much we’ve already booked another week there. This place and the people there DO NOT suck! Sorry that was our joke...
