Mallku Cueva — Hotel in Municipio Colcha K

COLD AND BAD HOTEL.

This hotel is giving The Shining. We were the only ones in the hotel. Conveniently there was no hot water whilst the fireplaces were supplied by enough gas to semi-heat the cold hotel. After checking-in (no key was given, we had to look for it ourselves at the deserted reception) we wanted to have a shower anyway. Lo and behold, no running water. I tried to find someone, eventually having to yell multiple times walking through the hallway. Finally someone came that promised to put the water on (would take 15 minutes). For all the troubles they offered beer or wine at dinner. Heating in the room was promised. Of course there was NO heating.

Dinner was fine/good. Tasteful beef, vegetarian option. Spaghetti and mashed potatoes. But overpriced at 31 USD per person. Beer was served not very cold. The glass that came with the bottle was colder than the bottle of beer itself, so the beer became too warm soon after. During dinner our helpful guide told the hotel staff about the heating issue, which then placed a portable heater in our room for 15-20 minutes until we entered and could go to sleep. It was warm when we entered the room, but during the night the room became very cold. The bed had enough layers so inside the bed it was fine. Outside the bed not so much.

Waking up in the cold. No working lights. Ice cold water was running. It was a tough morning.

Our conclusion is that they do not bother turning on the central heating for the rooms and water because it is too expensive. They blamed it on the strikes (other hotel where our guide was staying had hot shower). A cheap budget cut on their end.

And the ironic part? This is the most expensive hotel in town. This hotel deserves minus twenty stars, but for now should...

This hotel is adorable inside with lots of character and cute decorations. The room itself was cute and the bed was comfortable. Also, the staff, and in particular the reception manager, tried to make me feel as comfortable as possible. That said, I had several issues with my stay at the Hotel Jardines de Mallku Cueva.

To begin with, when I entered the room, i found someone’s used toothpick on my nightstand. Also, though I requested a double room with at least a queen size bed, I was put in a room with two single beds. This, despite the fact that it was me and a French couple as the only guests in the entire hotel. Perhaps there are not any double beds available? The other thing is that the shower did not drain. So after running the water for a few minutes the bottom of the shower would fill up and you were standing in ankle deep water of your own filth. It was disgusting. Also, the food at the restaurant was subpar. Again, it was me and another couple is the only one staying in the hotel. Despite that fact, the staff could not keep enough hot water in the kettle to serve coffee. And please note there is no brewed coffee; the only coffee served is instant. I would say don’t stay here, but when you’re doing a four day tour of the Uyuni salt flats you don’t have many...

Abbiamo soggiornato in questo hotel la seconda notte del nostro tour di tre giorni nel Salar de Uyuni. Abbiamo pagato il provider del tour per avere un hotel più bello rispetto agli ostelli che propongono. Ma sul sito ho visto che comunque l'hotel viene 200$ a notte, prezzo folle considerata la media boliviana. Esperienza pessima, come si può intuire dalle due stelle. Arriviamo in reception, con la nostra guida boliviana parlante inglese. Non c'è nessuno alla reception, la guida si addentra nell'hotel alla ricerca di qualcuno, finalmente trova un signore che ci fa il check in. Ovviamente ci chiede i passaporti, glieli diamo e poi dice, in spagnolo alla guida, che la stampante è rotta e non può fare le copie adesso, quindi li terrà e poi ce li ridará. Non volevamo lasciare i passaporti, noi non parliamo spagnolo, il signore non parla inglese e la guida se ne sarebbe andata. Quindi gli diciamo che se vuole abbiamo delle fotocopie dei nostri passaporti, che portiamo con noi per sicurezza e possiamo lasciargli quelle. MAGICAMENTE a quel punto la fotocopiatrice va... Il receptionist dice qualcosa alla guida, che ci traduce "eh perché di solito gli ospiti sono stanchi e non vogliono aspettare". Camera piccolissima e freddissima. Accendiamo i caloriferi, ma non si scaldano. Doccia solo acqua fredda. (Gradino per andare in bagno che rischi di prendere la testata). Andiamo nella zona comune, sperando che sia calda, assolutamente no è gelida. Chiedo al signore dell'hotel se il riscaldamento va e mi dice di aspettare che adesso parte. Accende le stufe in giro nella zona comune. I caloriferi non vanno ancora in camera. Alle 18.45 richiedo del riscaldamento in camera e mi dice che si accende alle 19. Effettivamente poi si è acceso, ma il calorifero è piccolo e non riuscirá mai a scaldare la stanza con il freddo che entra da fuori. La cena viene servita alle 19. Ospiti dell'hotel: quattro persone (noi e un'altra coppia). La cena consiste di: zuppa di verdure e carne (nulla di che ma non cattiva) riso, quinoa con carne di manzo e di pollo (onestamente buoni) arroz con leche che è letteralmente riso bollito in latte caldo (non buono) Non ci ha portato da bere né chiesto se volevamo qualcosa. Chiedo due coca cola ne porta una sola, ma non ho detto niente. 19.40 cena finita andiamo a letto. A questo punto succede la cosa per la qual ho dato la seconda stella: ci bussano alla porta e ci offrono una coperta elettrica per scaldare il letto. L'unica cosa che ci ha permesso di tirare al mattino. Dovendo partire alle 6 AM, avevamo ordinato la colazione to-go. Arriviamo in reception alle 5:55 non c'è nessuno e non c'è la colazione. La guida di nuovo va in esplorazione e non trova nessuno. Alle 6:05 mi spazientisco e ce ne andiamo senza colazione, per rispetto alla guida che ci avrebbe portati in Chile e poi sarebbe tornata a Uyuni non volevo farle perdere altro tempo. Forse siamo venuti fuori stagione, perché non è ancora partito il periodo (era inizio Giugno 2025), però è una vergogna far pagare 200$ per un servizio del genere. A Uyuni in un posto delizioso abbiamo pagato 80$, qui si approfittano di essere l'unica opzione non ostelli della zona. La prima notte del tour fatta a Colchani è stata il paradiso, questa tutto...
