5 stars because of the remote place it is situated and it is so difficult to bring things and food there. Tayka is situated at around 4.400 meters in the Siloli desert. The scenery there is amazing, unique, magnificent- from another planet. The closest thing to planet mars with the reddish colors. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The breakfast beyond expectations always taking in consideration where the hotel is situated. You can even order your omelette or fried eggs. The dinner is set usually with a starter (probably soup), a main course and for desert fruits. All were very tasty. The view from the dining area simply amazing . From the rooms don’t expect much. Just the basics. To the positive side, they are warm ( the temperatures at night can get far below Zero), they have hot water. Because the electricity is produced solely by solar power and generators after 10:30pm there are no electricity and lights. There is WiFi available with proper speed but only accessible in the reception area and the sitting area just before the dinning area. Don’t forget that the place is in the middle of nowhere

Tayka el Desierto is a tough one to review, as it’s such an isolated place that expectations need to be kept realistic. The rooms are absolutely freezing at night once the heating goes off, but the beds are wonderfully warm thanks to thick thermal blankets. I still ended up sleeping in my Marks and Spencer thermal undergarments to stay comfortable! Mornings are cold too — although there is hot water, I couldn’t face stepping out of the shower into the chilly room. The food is okay, nothing special, but enough to get by. WiFi is available, but only in the reception area. This isn’t the kind of place you’d want for a long stay, but if you’re passing through, it’s part of the adventure. Be tough, brave the experience, and it’ll make you appreciate every other hotel you stay in afterwards. A unique and memorable stop!

While many may not consider the hotel worthy, let us tell you we disagree. Consider this: 4500m+ elevation up in the mountains, Nothing in sight for miles and miles of sand and rock except some Vicunas... Imagine running an inn up here that can provide decent breakfast and buffet dinner everyday... can't top that. The rooms appear to be constructed from rock (or salt blocks) and it will be chilly. At night even at the height of summer it gets -3°C at night or early morning outside. So, ask for hot water bottles from reception to place on your bed and pre-warm it. They do tell you that hot water for bathing and electricity stops from 10pm. Fortunately for us it appeared to be available all night. Was it due to New Year' eve we are not sure. We brought our own LED lights but did not get to use them.

First of all, I need to explain that I did read all the horrific reviews about how cold the place is, about how hard it is to be at this altitude, and so on…I admit I was scared. |Turns out the place is brilliant. You need to remember where you are, at 4530 m high and in July ( as we were) it is cold. |But there are fireplaces and heaters everywhere and the restaurant room and common areas are super cosy, the heating in the rooms does work pretty well, the beds have 4 blankets and you get a hot water bottle to warm up the bed also. |The heater in the room did stop at midnight but honestly we were prepared. If you want to sleep in a pretty nightgown that indeed might be tough but if you dress in layers and cover up, you won’t be cold. |As for the altitude, the hotel has many oxygen bottles and they provide free teas in the afternoon, including mate de coca. |Yet, the super good thing about this hotel is the staff, who is wonderful, very helpful and professional.|Also big thanks for the chef, the dinner was delicious and it is the first and only time I was asked if I had any food restrictions, which were respected ( I was even given 2 special dishes and the entree was adapted).|Internet worked well, the warmth and the teas made it a very pleasant arrival and the smile of all staff members also made us feel happy.|In a nutshell, awesome hospitality and awesome stay, in the most...

An interesting hotel to review. The hotel is located in the middle of nowhere at 4600m so your expectations cannot be high. The rooms are clean but basic. You get a bathroom, a reasonably comfortable bed and that's about it. The area gets cold and they are somewhat geared up for it. We had a gas heater in our room which helped (although we couldn't leave it on overnight) and were given hot water bottles at bed time to keep us warm. The covers are nice and warm and really helped.

The hotel is solar powered and there is no electricity other than some emergency lights after 10:30PM. I would say that while this is understandable, it would have been nice for them to provide some battery powered lanterns so you can at least use the bathroom overnight without fumbling with your phone torch.

The meals were okay. The restaurant is kept very warm and while there are vegetarian options, they were basic. It definitely wasn't bad, but it won't win prizes. Given the context of the hotel being located in the middle of nowhere, you cannot complain.

The last thing to mention is the view outside the windows is amazing. If you're there before sunset or after sunset, it's breathtaking and really makes it...

Having to read many reviews (because I was really worrried before going), I concluded that this hotel is quite well maintained!!! ||We went in September, it was around -2 to -5 degree at night time. As mentioned in previous review, there is no more lights/heater by 11pm. However hotel provide very warm mattress, total of 4 layers that is enough to allow me to have a good sleep throughout the night. No issue with hot water and lighting. The heater was not strong but we requested the hotel for a gas portable one. All is good! Food is normal but for this altitude, I would believe that they have already provided the best of what is available. Oh, lights/heater available from 5.30am onwards and yes, no delay! ||We were worried in the beginning hence we brought many heat packs etc but didn’t use at all as the bed was able to keep us warm enough, we have a good night sleep. Also, we don’t wrap in layers. For us, a jacket, long sleeve pants and long sleeve clothes was enough.||Thank you tayka del desierto for provide such an unforgettable stay at 4,600ft. Oh, and we asked to our guide how high it is because we kept getting...
