This is a beautiful location. The food is wonderful and the wait staff were very nice. The pool is beautiful. The manager speaks English which was helpful and is very friendly. He played guitar and sang one night and has a wonderful voice and it was a nice treat. I often rely on TripAdvisor so I do have some things that future guests should consider: 1) We understood and were told there would be a guide we could hire to explore. We were told that they would be there the next day after breakfast and we could do a longer guided hike. We got ready and then were told that this was not an option because of the rain. It was minimally misting. We luckily were able to contact a guide service ourselves (something the hotel did not offer to do and charged us for making the local call ourselves) --so we were able to do a hike that day but only because we set it up. I would not go there again without setting up my own guide services ahead of time. I am not sure why they only use one guide but it would be easy for them to call other guide services if the one guide they have was not available but they simply did not offer or assist with this at all. 2) This resort seems to mainly serve people who have their own cars...we did not and there did not seem to be any types of taxi services reliably available if we wanted to go anywhere else. 3) There is a very nice few mile hike you can take on your own without leaving the grounds but no maps are provided and we would never have discovered it if we had not taken the guided tour we arranged ourselves 4) The last night were were there a band set up and played very loud music until almost 2 in the morning. It was right outside of our hotel room area and not playing at even a normal band level...I barely slept the last night and this seemed to be highly unusual behavior for a hotel. I am not sure what it was like for anyone with younger children but I am sure no one slept well in the entire hotel that night. I would say despite these concerns the staff, manager, and beautiful location made the stay an overall very nice one but just be prepared for some of the issues above. The location is lovely and I appreciated the staff...I just think they have some adjusting to do for this to be...
Read moreWe spent two nights at this hotel, at the beginning and at the end of our Bolivia roundtrip. The experiences were different but both times a little strange. The first time we arrived one hour ahead of Check-in time, tired from an early morning arrival at Santa Cruz airport. Even though the hotel was almost completely empty, we were made to pay 20 US$ extra for access to our room. The second time we were asked to make a deposit of 100 US$ in cash for possible restaurant/minibar expenditures (during a 1 night stay...!). At check-out the staff charged a restaurant bill to our checkout bill even though we hadn't been to the restaurant at all. After some discussions and assurances from our side they dropped it fortunately.||||The hotel itself could use a facelift, especially its concrete section with the standard rooms, which looks a bit run down. The bed was good (but short for Non-Bolivians), but some of the other furniture seems to have seen a few summers too many... The second time, our room was not particularly clean either. The bungalows, in contrast, look nice. Breakfast was served as a standard plate; staff didn´t show much flexibility for special dietary needs (in contrast to any other hotel in Bolivia we stayed at). At the same time it has to be said that the hotel's location is strategically excellent if you don't want to stay in Santa Cruz itself. The park/gulf course that it´s set in is well-kept and beautiful. And the surrounding countryside is fantastic. If you stay at Laguna Volcan, you should definitely take the time and go for a hike. Within half an hour you reach a great viewpoint towards the red sandstone cliffs...
Read moreI just spent a couple of days (Dec 30th and Jan 1st) at Laguna Volcan Hotel, the landscape is still beautiful and peaceful. However, the Hotel changed the administration (last time I went there was a nice Colombian lady) and unfortunately the service quality decreased. The package I bought included New Year's party, and the party wasn't organized properly... In Bolivia, December is a rainy month, so everybody knows that at Dec 31st might rain, so if you will have a party that night you should prepare accordingly (install some rain tents, for people, for musicians, etc).. This new party did has a place where to dance, no decoration, cotillon quality to forget, and in summary a very poor party. Really disappointed.||Again I insist, at least the landscape remains beautiful, however bI not sure if at the price they charge, is a...
