In assessing this hotel, its important to consider the options.....this is Santa Cruz, so despite the fact that over 1.5 million people live in the city, the choice of hotels is very limited, and among those, the number of better hotels is extremely limited. La Quinta is really more of a very old apartment hotel. It has been relatively well maintained, and the grounds are well landscaped. The hotel is more or less in the southwestern quadrant of the market, but close to the Zona Centro. Units include kitchens or kitchenettes with refrigerators, microwaves, dishes and silverware. The hotel is relatively quiet. The staff are very polite and very helpful. The rooms are very clean. Just don't expect state-of-the-art amenities. And the Internet service is very, very slow.....personally, I was glad that it even functioned. If you want accommodations with something of a "home" feel, then this is a good choice. The residential neighborhood to the west is upscale and consists of large, single family homes, usually behind hall walls. There are four upper class residential towers to the immediate north. The second ring road is to the east and on the other side, you enter the central city with it narrow roads and hundred of mall shops and businesses. Given the width of the ring and the torn drain channel that run down the middle, it is difficult to cross the ring on foot. This is not really a place for a lot of walking around, but I would disagree with an earlier writer who did not like the neighborhood. The area where the hotel is located is one of the better ones in Santa Cruz....it is best to remember that Santa Cruz has grown rapidly, that zoning and master planning do not have a long tradition here and many properties are zoned "mixed" which allows for a huge variety of land uses....drive around the city and this will be immediately noticeable. ||||The hotel consists actually of three properties.....some of the units and the spa are across a small street to the south of the main property. Both properties are gated, fenced and guarded. There is gated and secure parking for motor vehicles. There is an events center across the street to the west that can accommodate 40 people for small events or conferences. Stay tuned, there are apparently plans to seriously upgrade this property, but this being Santa Cruz, time moves at a different pace here and there is no time line at the moment. Meanwhile, you certainly...
Read moreI booked this place cause they have apartments and a kitchen and is well located so according to the place itself is great, however i cant say the same about the service to begin with the first night we got there we could notice small ants all over the room and even the bed i called recpetion telling them to please come and check and they told me it was too late and they will do it the next day (it was 8:30 pm) so i slept bad the whole night checking on the kids not to get bitten by this ants, next day we wanted to go to the "spa" they offer, the lady working there was rude mentioning both of the saunas were not working then we asked for the hidromasaje and she told us is not working either so we tried the pool and unfortunatly the pool was really dirty, so we loved the facilities we had here about kitchen and really nice place but service and manteinence are far away to be mentioned as a 4 star hotel ...and if you really need to have wifi all the time forget about this place if you are lucky it will work only for...
Read moreI stayed a night while waiting to take a plane the next day. I wished I had stayed here when I went through Santa Cruz earlier in the summer. The hotel is nicely landscaped with a pool, many amenities, and the personnel were nice and helpful. Restaurant had good food, and the room service was quick. ||Rooms (apartment) was large with an upstairs bedroom and full bath. Downstairs had a kitchen, living room and half-bath. Decorations could use a little updating. ||||The location may not be great for sightseeing--not that there is much for tourist in this city. The sightseeing area near the Cathedral and its plaza--you can see it in a couple of hours and not have to stay in this less-than-desirable...
