It was my 3rd visit at this place. This time I had book the luxury Presidential Meru Tent, my 1st visit i stayed at the Self-Catering Chalets and the 2nd visit i did the Meru Luxury tent. I don’t know if it could have been affected by the Covid pandemic but they quality of this place seems to have gone down drastically compared to when I was there in 2020. The Presidential Tent was underwhelming, no decor in sight, just a basic looking room with white sheets, reminded me of a hospital, no cushions on seating area, no color in the room, no decorative art or ornaments. To be honest, there was nothing presidential about save for it being adequately spacious. We had to pick our amenity kids (coffee & soaps) from the front desk in a plastic bag. You’d expect to find them beautiful displayed in the room. For a presidential tent I expected someone to accompany us and show us the room, especially because it was furthest away from everything and the signage wasn’t very visible especially coming from the restaurant area. The lighting inside the tent was very poor, very dim, i don’t know the kind of mood they were trying to set but it was dark even with all the lights on. We had to use a ring light to light the room. I am a photographer and I wanted to photograph the room beautifully, but with zero deco, poor interior design & poor light, it was painful to do that. Although it had adequate sitting area both inside and outside, overkill for 2 people i must say, the lack of color and cushions made it less comfortable. The front porch of the tent was spacious but lacked the view. It was wholly surrounded by dried out high bushes that extended all the way to the ten. I know you’re trying to keep the place natural in nature but please trim those bushes in the front, it will give a beautiful view of the rolling hills from the room. We don’t pay for the the tent and stuff, we pay for the VIEW. The place looks really beautiful on the original photos and videos of the Bushtech company that built it. ||Another thing. I think by now the resort would have introduced more activities, more things to do when you’re there. The hike up the gorge falls can’t be the only activity. Once you been once it becomes a bore. The place should be a relaxing resort and not just an overnight motel. Its still has a relaxing feel about it, put up a spar, yoga decks, self walk paths, pond for picnic or bird watching. I am a wildlife photographer who shoots a lot of birds, I carried all my equipment but I didn’t know where to do the birding. The hike to the gorge is no longer a mystical undertaking. With the influx of day trippers, it is now a rushed activity to get different groups of visitors up and down the gorge. Its good cash flow I suppose but it has killed the mood of that place and activity. Its so rushed and crowded you cant even stop and take a good picture with without people in your shot. I had planned to do Long Exposure shots of the water falls, it was damn near impossible. I had to take 2 hikes in 2 days just to take decent photos.||Restaurant, bar and pool area. Seems delapidated since 2020. The amenities are now out of sights, probably because they couldnt keep them up with the high number of day visitors passing through the area. The pool was a beautiful feature, its closed. The pool was out of service, being cleaned, it looked like it has seen better days with bird poop all over the infinity edge. Although they had made a rule that the pool was for staying guests and day trippers were banned from swimming, back in 2020 it was still hard to swim and relax with 30 people around the small pool all taking pictures with the pool. We pay from the VIEW and PRIVACY. The pool is so small to be a public pool. The food is underwhelming, nothing so say but fix it, fix the menu, offer more drink choices especially beers. Only 2 things we enjoyed there was the fillet steak and the burger, the chef outdid himself there, tender and well seasoned, sell that more than anything. Control the day trippers and their activities around the pool and bar area. Its running the resort down. 2nd time I am experiencing this as a staying guest.||The approach roads, something could be down about the thick sand on the road especially for small cars, the road to...
Read moreThe chalet were smaller than expected but well furnished. Everything that we could have needed in the kitchen was available.||The biggest issue in the chalet though is the lack of light. There are 2 light bulbs in the room and they are really not strong. I had to use my torch when cooking and when looking for stuff. There are also no bed lamps so it makes it impossible to read a book in the evening. ||||The main door could not stay closed unless lock with a key and that was challenging. ||||Otherwise, the facility was nice for a night but I would not recommend spending longer there. ||||The hike to the gorge was beautiful but could definitely be done by oneself instead than with a guide. Moreover, the guide arrived 15mn late at the meeting point and when he saw us, he did not greet us and carried on chatting on his phone. That was not a great start. The induction was really brief and he did not explain the history behind the area - which is a pity. He however then made a lot of effort in looking for birds. His bird call knowledge was very good. ||||It's a good place to stop for one night when travelling from A to B. If the chalet were a bit more lighthen up and there was a possibility to go around without a guide, it would be great to stay...
