A scam!
Never waste time to read 1 and 5 star reviews. But I have to put 1 star as it was a scam. I had the best holiday of my life in Botswana, until I came to Kalahari Plains Camp
1000 US Dollars per night and 500 ++ US Dollars per day for private jeep and I rate it terrible
I have read about the camp on Wilderness Safaris web page and let me qoute: Our rates include: • All meals I pay 1000 US Dollars per day and the breakfast consist of toast. There is also muffins and cereals. Could as well have had a bowl of sugar as it is pretty much the same thing • Laundry The first thing they hand me is a cup of washing detergent. I asked what this was for and they told me it was for the laundry. But this is included! No the laundry was not included and I had to wash under wear, socks etc.
From their web page: Kalahari Plains Camp is a Classic Camp. Our Classic camps are luxury tented camps, all offering stylish and spacious accommodation, with superb facilities. All bedroom have en-suite bathrooms. Nowhere is it mentioned that there is salt water in the "en-suite bathrooms" Superb facilities! There was not even a fan in the room which I have had in all the other tented camps, and none of them claimed to be "luxury tented camps" There was a fan in the ceiling, but as everyone knows experience a fan in the ceiling are useless. I would not mind the salt water and the laundry if this was mentioned before the check in. But to charge 1000 US per night for this is a scam
I stayed 3 nights and that is 2 days, international standard when booking a trip. I pad for 3 nights and two days of private safari. When I had paid I was told that I had to pay the jeep for the full length of stay. Arriving late afternoon and leaving in the morning
First time I arrive to a hotel and already regret to have chose the place, even before seeing the place. And after check in they started to pull rabbits out of the hat, no laundry, no fan, no internet and toast for breakfast
They picked me up at the airport and they told me that it was not sure we would see any animals. And as this is not my first safari I told them that I knew. This is not a TV show, it is the nature so nothing is for sure. We agreed that we should go North on the first day and we would go South on the second day
First day and we were at the Deception Valley and we were at a cross road. Yet again, we decided to go North and we would go the other way tomorrow.
The second day and now I got the full song and dance that the road going South was in a bad condition and we would not reach the area we had planned to go to. I said that it was never mind, we just go as far as we have time for and we drive slow as I like to enjoy the landscape
2 time, I said it 2 times and still we are on the same road as yesterday and when we had wasted 6 hours and it was mid day. I got angry Yesterday we did the road in 200 and today we did it in dead slow. I was angry and I had been scammed on the private jeep.
It is good to have interested Guides that like to see animals, but I pay for the car, 500++ US Dollars per day we go where I want to go even if we don't see any animals.
Previous camp in Botswana and I had stayed with Desert & Delta Safari's camp. No luxury camp mentioned anywhere on their web page. But there was fan, internet and all my laundry was included in the price. And there was more than toast to chose from for breakfast. AND HALF THE PRICE
The staff was very friendly and I know that hey are only Wilderness front men and women and have nothing to do with me getting scammed, but the had to take some of the heat. I feel a wee bit bad about this.
I will stay well clear of Wilderness Safaris LUXURY TENTED amps in the future, a scam and I felt like I was robbed and my holiday was destroyed
I knew all the prices before booking and I got different options from my travel agent and I chose the 4000 US Dollars more expensive Kalahari Plain Camp option, something I...
Read moreThe best time to enjoy this wonderful area is just after the rainy season. From April through to September the pans are emerald green and vast herds of oryx and springboks congregate to feed on the abundant grazing. Predators would follow these herds and chances of seeing amazing sightings are excellent. My highlight at Kalahari Plains Camp was sleeping under the stars on the rooftop of my cabin! One can also have an amazing authentic Bushman (San) experience...
