Our first time to Africa, we were going out on two different safaris in the Okavango Delta area. After researching, and knowing that we'd want a little extra comfort surrounding the "roughing it" out in the bush, we decided on this hotel and I'm so very glad! Someone offered us fresh juice upon first arriving, after a long and stressful 42+ hours to get there, which was really nice. The lobby offered plenty of plush seating and fresh cucumber water. Everyone on the staff was so pleasant and thorough and helpful. We'd researched a few basic Setswana phrases (hello, please, thank you, etc.) and I felt like our efforts were appreciated. We were to learn later that the hotel was located more in a residential area than a touristy one. Though we didn't know that beforehand, it's exactly what we would have wanted, given the choice, as we prefer to experience local culture when traveling. There was a grocery store nearby, a pharmacy, and a wonderful pizza place. Everyone we encountered outside the hotel was friendly and helpful, as well - despite language barriers and our not quite understanding the system at the grocery. :)
There's a taxi spot right outside the entry to the hotel, which is extremely convenient for those of us traveling without a vehicle of our own. It was just a few minutes' drive to the "New Mall/Airport" shopping area, and just 10 pula.
Our room was booked for 2 days upon arriving, 1 day in-between our ground safari and kayak safari, and then 2 days at the end of our trip, and we were able to store our large piece of luggage at the hotel while we were out. We took full advantage of the laundry service the days we were there, which was very fast and efficient, and the free breakfast (delicious) included with our lodging. When we arrived for our last 2 days, we were informed that our room had been upgraded - what a lovely surprise! After the strenuous kayaking safari, the extra large tub in our room was a very welcomed feature.
I'd read some people have experienced issues with the WiFi in the past, but we had no problems there, either. The internet and the a/c both worked wonderfully.
I really just can't say enough good about this hotel. We didn't have one bad or negative experience there. It's a beautiful place, beautiful grounds. There is unfortunately a drought this year, so we didn't get to experience the river running nearby, but if and when we ever find ourselves back in Maun, we will certainly be...
Read moreWe enjoyed our stay quite a bit, 2 separate nights during a 2-week safari out of Maun. The staff is exceptionally friendly, helpful and efficient with any requests. They had their act together at the front desk: check-in & check-out were smooth each time. The property is gorgeous— beautiful gardens which are meticulously kept, and many places to sit and relax outdoors. Loved seeing all the different birds in the garden, and a bit of river view visible from the grounds. At night, toads start hopping all over the garden, and they were very comical to watch (we are animal lovers). The nighttime sounds of frogs and night birds were very soothing. The swimming pool was clean and a welcome place to cool off in the very hot afternoon. The rooms were spotlessly clean, had very comfortable beds with nice linens, simple and attractive decor, convenient charging outlets, and excellent air conditioning. The wi-fi was reliably good. We had a smaller room on the first night. It unfortunately had a shower stall with one of those 1/2 glass panels which allowed water to splash out and flood the whole bathroom floor, making an unpleasant mess which we had to mop up with our bath towels.||The second time we stayed was at the end of our trip. We had a much nicer room with extra space that included a walk-in closet, extra table with nicely upholstered chairs and a desk, plus a veranda with an outdoor table and chairs and a beautiful view of the garden. This time the bathroom had a tub, so no shower water got out onto the floor. Water pressure was trickle-y, but manageable.||One criticism of the hotel that we have is that the food from the restaurant isn’t very good. One night was a dinner buffet, the 2nd night we ordered dinner from their menu. Both times pretty mediocre. Breakfast buffets same. The wait staff, however, were exceptionally sweet and helpful. We liked having the choice to eat on the outdoor porch.||The property as a whole is very clean and beautifully kept with very friendly and welcoming staff. Our safari guides recommended that we not venture on our own beyond the property at night, such as walking along the river, since they didn’t feel it was safe to do so. We followed their advice, though it was indeed very tempting to go down to the river. There is secure fencing all around the site, and we felt very safe at all times.||Overall, a very...
Read moreI am not sure why other reviews claim this is a good property. It is on a highway, my room (41) was desperately in need of update and not clean. The grounds are in need of repair, the pool pump loud, and not enjoyable to sit by. Seems more modern at first, but that is not a good thing. Beyond eRegistration and checkout emails, modern ends and a run-down, American-style roadside motel begins. The chairs were so dirty and worn, I would not sit and the front door looked as if it had been broken into multiple times. Bathroom tile was grungy, cracked and toilet had dirty rings. Horrible place inside and out.
I also Stayed at Sedia Hotel and StayMorr Guesthouse recently in Maun and they are FAR better properties. Grounds and rooms at Sedia were lovely for a tourist hotel. StayMorr was like a very...
