This is a premier camp of Kwando safaris. On my trip I stayed in 3 Kwando camps- Mma Dinare, Nxai Pan and this one. This is by far the most luxurious one with exceptional service. In both Mma Dinare and Kwara, the safari vehicles are comfortable, but in Kwara it is a maximum of 4 passengers. In my case, we had only 3. The day schedule in Kwando camps is the same with two safaris per day. You have a choice of game drives, mokoro rides and boat safari to Heron colony. Kwara is in the area of permanent waterways, thus water activities are available even at low water levels in other places. Our boat safari was scheduled for the last afternoon, but boat had a problem. It was my 1st time in Okavango Delta and this was only the one camp where I could do boat safari. The manager of the camp went above and beyond her duties, and managed to reschedule the next day flight for later departure and borrow the boat from the sister camp Splash in order for us to have this experience. I am very grateful for this. It is a very large concession and some game rides were pretty far to reach some interesting spotting like a pride of lions with 4 cubs or wild dogs after the kill. Our guide Chime and spotter Freeman were very good. What also is great that not more that 3 vehicles were at one sighting at a time, typically it was just 1 or 2 - it is very different from national parks. Tracking off-road is also a huge bonus compared to the national parks restrictions, as well as the night drives. There were plenty of red lechwes, impalas, waterbucks, wildebeests, zebras, elephants, buffalos, giraffes and hippos. Many of them had the youngsters. In addition, we saw family of jackals and how wild dogs (total 24 wild dogs were feasting) were chasing off jackals from their kill, leopards on the trees, and hyenas, springhare and wild cat at night. As one of our group wanted to fish, he and the guides had fishing at sunset catching a lot of fish quickly. The camps had 2 pools, one at each wing of rows of tents, and I enjoyed my private swims every afternoon with only visits by warthogs, red lechwe and baboons. All meals and drinks were excellent, staff is professional and friendly. I had unforgettable experience...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I stayed at Kwara during our two week stay in Africa. Our of all the camps, this was sure the fanciest camp. The “tent” was bigger than my first apartment I think. It had a huge bed, living room with chairs and a desk, wrap around porch, bathtub with double sinks, indoor and outdoor shower. Amazing tent. The property had a main “lodge” with several areas to sit and read or play games. There were also two pool houses, one on each side of the camp. In these pool houses were fridges with a variety of beverages, a bathroom, ad ecent sized pool, pool lounge chairs, and an outdoor sitting area. The staff were fantastic, including the guides, spotters and chefs. The guides were very knowledgeable and shout out for Mr. G to helping us get some amazing sightings. This was the only camp with had with a spotter and a driver/guide. The spotter really came in handy during the night drives, as we saw some amazing nocturnal animals because the spotter could shine the spotlight and look for them while the driver was driving. This alone made it worth it to have a spotter. Every meal that we had was incredible. I wish I would have asked for the recipe for their mini lasagnas, so good! The area was awesome, different than the other camps we stayed in as you are in the Delta right next to water. This seemed to result in more animals in the camp. While we were there, we (or others) saw boars, elephants, baboons, and hippos In camp. I also like how this camp had a nice little store, the nicest store we encountered at any camp. We purchased a lot of good, quality items. If I am lucky enough to get to visit Africa again, I would definitely consider Kwara. I think my only hesitation was that this camp was maybe a little nicer and fancier than what we need, and maybe we could stay longer somewhere else for the same price. ||Animals seen:|Lion, Leopard, Spotted Hyena, Black-Backed Jackel, Cape Buffalo, Hippo, Tsessebe, Wildebeest, Lechwe, Sable Antelope, Roan Antelope, White-Backed Vulture, Ostrich, Zebra, Elephant, Warthog, Serval, Small-Spotted Genet, Lappet-Faced Vulture, Saddle-Billed Stork, Burchell’s Starling, White Headed Vulture, Southern African Springhare, African Civet,...
Read moreWe spent 6 nights at Kwara camp and loved every minute. The accomodations were spacious and lovely and they offered views ot the lagoon out front. We could count on seeing hippos lurking, elephants patrolling and often saw antelope, baboons, warthogs and even a porcupine all in camp. The food was delicious with all sorts of wonderful salads at lunch which were such a vision and they tasted great, too. Dinner was fantastic and I dread stepping on the scale since our return. The staff went out of their way to take care of us and they were very joyful and the management was extremely hands-on. We were very impressed.| Our guide and tracker, Mr. T and Chris allowed us to explore the entire concession and showed us game every day which thrilled us. We loved the variety of terrain and sam bug herds of elephants, lions, antelope, giraffe, wild dogs, leopards, hyenas, jackal and so much more. A few highlights included watching a large pack of wild dogs. after two failed attempts at hunting, they chased an impala into a pond. Not being the impala's day, he was grabbed by a croc who tried to pull him under while the dogs circled the pond. Hippos intervened the the impala made it to the bank only to to get eaten by the dogs and their pups after this whole ordeal. It was quite a circle of life moment and one we watched in silence with respect for both the hunters and the hunted. We took a boat ride up the delta where we saw an elephant swimming across the channel using the tip of his trunk as a snorkel. We ended up at a rookery with storks clacking their bills, ibis looking stoic and egrets working on their nests one stick at a time. Back to our game drives, Mr T and Chris showed what they are made of as they tracked lions who had made a kill and also tracked a leopard who made his way into a tree. And, there was so much more. Thankfully, we have all those sightings in our heads now and will carry them through our days. We loved our time in the Delta and would certainly...
