Maun lodge is fairly large with around 80 hotel rooms and around 10 chalets . The chalets are not isolated and are in typical lodge format, with a small external covered stoep just enough for a garden like bench facing onto other similar units. The chalets are set out at the back with no real view, all in very close walking proximity to the pool, restaurant and bar area. These well designed thatch units consist of double bed or two single beds on suite bathroom, tea and coffee facilities, television with limited channel selection, telephone, Air con and mosquito nets.
All linen and towels provided in ample quantity if something more required it is just one reception phone call away. The beds came standard with mosquito nets which is of utmost importance this being a high risk malaria area.
A very clean on suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. Each Chalet has its own geyser so hot water was never a problem. However our units’ geyser was faulty and the lodge offered us another unit or the use of an unoccupied chalet at the drop of a hat.
Parking was not too much of an issue as there was ample space, however no designated parking bays and the possibility of a full lodge could provide tricky situations getting in and out especially with those towing trailers or boats.
We were welcomed with expert expertise and apple juice and a huge smile; everyone was professional big smiles and willing to go the extra mile.
Dinner menu was rounded with plenty options and had everything except chicken, only due to the current situation of Bird flu outbreak quality of food was very good, a fair balance between quantity and quality for the price.
I would stay at this lodge again without a doubt; we stayed one night as passing through guests but would have liked to stay at least 2 being able to explore Maun a little more.
Maun lodge is situated on the Thamalakane river which is frequented with domestic animals, so any river view is not critical, a sundowners at the pub for one night will suffice. Those doing any kind of shopping in Maun head directly towards Rileys garage area. And explore...
Read moreI was on a personal trip to Botswana. I arrived in Maun from Johannesburg but my checked luggage did not arrive. The airline then confirmed the bag would arrive the next day. I had not intended to stay in Maun but due to the missing bag i decided to stay till the next day to pick up May luggage personally. ||I asked a friend for a hotel recommendation to which he responded “lets try the Maun Lodge”||We drove over, 15-20 minutes from the airport. Walked in and asked at the reception if they had a room available for the night. The ladies were very courteous and professional. They responded “yes” they had rooms of different styles and they recommended i try the “chalets” which were in the range of $88.00 USD/night. I accepted their recommendation and was pleased with the stay.||Positives Easy drive form airport| Good reception staff| I did not have an adapter for the electric socket, the reception loaned me one for the night| Efficient check in and check out | Chalet although basic was very comfortable - TV/ beds with mosquito nets/ good lighting/room and bathroom were clean| Chalet also had a small front porch with chair| Restaurant and bar - pleasant/efficient staff, food was basic but good and served in a timely manner| Gym - small but well...
Read moreOur experience at Maun Lodge was okay. The hotel itself is pleasant, though the furnishings are outdated. It is clean and feels comfortable overall. The rooms are a bit dark but well equipped for a brief stay.
We had lunch, dinner, and breakfast at the lodge, and unfortunately, none of the meals were enjoyable. Service was slow, and our dinner waitress seemed uninterested. Food was underwhelming. I would not recommend eating here if avoidable.
Breakfast was particularly poor. There were flies landing on uncovered food, and large spiders in the room, which made it difficult to relax while dining. The food lacked flavour, the selection was limited, and we were charged 15 USD per person for a buffet that we had assumed was included, as our names were checked off a list on arrival. The price was completely unreasonable given the quality and location.
I also had a massage during our stay, which was one of the most unpleasant I’ve experienced. The masseuse did not ask about any preferences or give any explanation before starting. The treatment was rather painful, with no communication or adjustment throughout. It was overall a very...
