After visiting Praia do Forte (near Salvador) we came to this little place called Mangue Seco. We were a bit hesitant because we did not quite know what to expect. We switched from car to boat and, after climbing a few steps, we were smack at the pousada. They have a number of rooms, simple but clean. Not much space to organize your things so don't take too much! The little village behind the pousada has only dirt roads, a few pousadas/hotels, shops and restaurants and no cars - only quadra tracks. Mangue Seco is famous for it's sand dunes and for the soap opera - Tieta do Agreste - based on Jorge Amado's novel. The beach is quite close, a hike of about 15/20 minutes. If the tide is up you wade through the water to get to the trail - unless you want to walk through the village and over the dunes. The beach is amazing, stretching out over miles and miles, just beautiful. A few "restaurants" with nice beach food, namely fish and caipirinha. We were there in August - a good time with few tourists. The pousada owners were really nice and we enjoyed very good pizzas in the open restaurant overlooking the water. To continue your trip you can hire a fisher boat and transfer to Indiaroba, about one hour from the pousada. To catch the morning bus you should leave about 5 am and you will be rewarded with the most...
