My wife and I enjoyed a very nice weekend a Les Roches. From the minute we arrived at the reception to the moment we checked out; the staff was kind, helpful and efficient. The property is set in a quiet valley, with a stream running through it; the landscaping is amazing, and I even noticed a little herb garden. We were among Toucans and other birds, monkeys and squirrels. Our chalet; furnished novo rustic, had a balcony with furniture and a hammock with a stunning view of the valley. We enjoyed a bottle of wine on it every evening. The chalet is spacious and clean with a comfy queen bed. Plenty of closet space and a large bathroom with plenty of hot water. The internet is excellent, cable TV; they have a small 3 par golf course, well maintained tennis court, wonderful pool and sauna, you can even borrow bicycles, but we settled for a long walk every morning on the country road. All 15 of the chalets were occupied, and it still felt like we were only there with a handful other folks; other guests are respectful of the peacefulness. Quiet and tranquil. We decided on a last minute dinner in the restaurant; and we were pleased by the quality of our meal. If there is one thing I would suggest; and it’s a very small thing, 4 lounge chairs at the pool is not enough for 15 occupied chalets. We...

Read moreMy husband and I headed to the “Pousada des Roches”in Itaipava, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, after a careful search for a perfect secluded and classy headaway. Sure enough, the hotel is located in a beautiful valley, where nature is dressed in an exhilarating fashion. Our room was nicely furnished and the toiletries, as actually announced in the hotel site, of well-picked quality. After a late lazy lunch, we napped and as we woke up to shower and get ready for dinner, we had the unplesant surprise of not having hot running water in our bathroom. To make matters worse, the phone was broken and the only way to reach the reception was to go there to place our complaint. Nevertheless, it all came to a nice end: the hotel staff was quick in relocating us in a different room, acting quite apologeticcally as required in such a situation. Minutes later, the hotel owner himself made a point of calling us to see what could be done in order to repair the inconveniencies that had been inflicted on us by hazard. He suggested that our rate for that day not to be charged and we thought that was fair enough. The stay was not exactly what we had in mind, but I am sure returning to a place that keeps such high standards of service and makes a point of addressing problems that may come up...
