This guesthouse is well indicated, coming from Itaipava. We had some trouble entering the address in our GPS, using Itaipava. You will probably have to use Petropolis as city, even though Petropolis actually is more than 30 minutes away. It is located in a guarded condominium site. It is situated quite high and the access and drive way can be quite steep, but all are well paved. The elevation make sure you have a great view of the valley. We were warmly welcomed by Maria, who took good care of us. There are a view cats around and two friendly (but a little scared) dogs. The house is well designed and has lots of space. There is a lovely terrace by the pool and also the inside eating area has great views. We were in the Loft room, which to our surprise wasn't higher up, but one floor down. It constists of a living room, kitchen and bedroom. It has a fire place which was nice because the weather was a little chilly, especially at night. ||We stayed on a Monday and were the only guests. The Pousada also offers dinner service. There is a good and varied menu, but Fernando (the owner) and his staff are excellent cooks so any suggestion he makes is good. We had a power cut due to the rains but there is emergency lightning and the bistro was lighted with candles. It didn't interrupt or influence our night. The wifi is free and good everywhere.||Fernando is an excellent host who speaks French, also, and his staff are friendly and very welcoming. We had an...
Read moreMy stay at Quinta do Alto was a very enjoyable experience. The rooms were everything they needed to be and everything was at a level of quality you should be able to expect from a hotel/b&b.||I wasn't overwhelmed by the amount of choice regarding the breakfast, but there was enough of it and the products were all fresh and delicious.||They also offer meals during the other times of the day and what we had was of great quality.||Now, the location. The place is located between petropolis and theresopolis and both places are about half an hour away. The poussada is located near the top of a mountain and the view if beautiful, especially when lying near the swimming pool. Being so high however, means it was kind of hard to reach the first time though, but that problem dissapears quickly. Don't expect to reach this car without a car though, so foreigners should absolutely have a rental car if they want to stay here.||Finally, the host. The fact that i will spend a paragraph writing about him should say enough, i guess. He was very helpful and was part of the reason i was so fond of this place. He would always strike up a conversation and was a very good french speaker (i can't judge his english though).||I highly recommend the poussada if you want a calm stay near petro- and...
Read moreIt is with great pleasure that I write this brief note of recognition about Quinta do Alto, placed all the way up in the mountains of Itaipava, in Petropolis. The location of Quinta do Alto is quite convenient: not so deep in the woods, but still it is remote enough that the nights feel so silent as if you were in the middle of nowhere.
I spent four enjoyable nights at a sizable junior suite with a delightful view from up above down to the green valley. The swimming pool is just the right size. The breakfast is delicious and generous.
Additionally, what stroke me as the main characteristic of this medium size bed-and-breakfast was the caliber of its construction. The entire concrete structure and the meticulous attention to the master plan details give the whole ambience a welcoming amplitude to all spaces, which trickles down on its guests and, overtime, inevitably ennobles its inhabitants.
The staff was also polite, efficient and effective throughout my stay.
If another opportunity arises, I certainly will go back to...
