We stayed at Sitio do Alemão more than 8 months ago but still having very fond memories. Our chalet was very simple, really not for someone looking for comforts, but the location in the middle of the forest is great. Such a wonderful experience to be so close to the nature, chill in the hammock listening to the birds and have a nice breakfast among the trees. If you're lucky you will also see monkeys. A word of advice, though: do not keep the door open for long at night because the light attracts some big flying bugs. Harmless but not particularly pleasant to share a room with. ||You can take a walk through the forest to come to a viewing point with two benches and sweeping panoramic views. The hike to the waterfalls offered by Herbert was a true highlight of our trip to Ubajara. We had doubts because we were not experienced hikers and also could not walk very long distances because of our back and ankle issues but everything worked out wonderfully. The hike was kind of challenging but in a fun way - you need to climb and descend the rocks, walk up and down the hills using a rope, cross through the running water several times and in the last part of the hike climb down (and back up) a tree. My husband has a fear of heights so we skipped this last (and the most beautiful) part of the hike but not feeling bad about it because what we already saw was beaaaaautiful and we also could bathe in the upper part of the waterfall. I can wholeheartedly recommended this hike, it's really fun and the views are amazing. Do take good, non-slippery shoes that could get into water. I and some other people used snickers for most of the walk and were just with socks while crossing the water. It was OK but not ideal. The price of the tour was very reasonable, especially if you go with other people. You have a feeling Herbert is doing this because he...
Read moreThe owner Herbert is very helpful. He communicated with us several times before arrival. If you come by car, make sure to ask for some instructions since the GPS guides in the wrong direction from about 100km away (but using the GPS by smaller steps through the towns noted by Herbert will get you there). For the waterfalls, the descent to the last waterfall is via a tree and a makeshift ladder. If someone in your group has some fear of hights is is very likely they will not be able to make it. But there is a possibility to swim also in the upper waterfall. You really need Herbert's guidance to get to these waterfalls, since the rout to get there is not marked and not trivial at all. The nearby town of Ubajara (4km away) and bigger nearby hotels (1.3km) have a quite good selection of restaurants, which compensates for the lack of provisions at the pousada. Generally, it is a location for nature lovers, who can enjoy the beauty in simplicity, not a luxury place. The room price that we had was 100 Brazilian $R. The room was very clean, and the little cute frog (~4cm) that jumped out of the sink when we entered did not bother us at all (there were no ants and no other insects in the room). Adding the fact that Herbert speaks English, French, German, and Portuguese, we highly...
Read moreWe really liked this pousada and area and even ended up extending our stay. The pousada is set away from town, but very close to the national park which is a few minutes walk away. Rooms are in well-designed individual cabins that blend into the forest where they are nestled, so you can lie in and listen to the sounds of the forest. Around the extensive grounds are banana trees, avocardo, bread fruit, and absolutely stunning views. There were monkeys fighting over mangos in the trees while we ate breakfast and tortoises rustling in the bushes. One word of caution if you don't like spiders, even though the cabins are sealed from mosquitos there are a few 8-legged friends around.||||One of the highlights of the whole holiday was the waterfall trip. It's an absolute must. The waterfalls are set in the most idylic surrounding, which when we were there were completely empty. We found it much more enjoyable then the actual national park which while beautiful had a more rigid path and other tourists there. All in all a...
