Pousada Maria Manhã — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata de São Lourenço

There is a pousada located deep in the heart of the Serra de Mantiqueira, just over the border from the state of Sao Paulo in Minas Gerais state, that should not be misssed if you are in the area for business, pleasure, or simply tracking down the nearby preservation steam railways. The access road is tricky, located as it is somewhere between Itanhandu and Passa Quarto. Look carefully for the signs, then follow them over the cobblestones and onto the 2.5 km dirt road that leads eventually to the estate-like grounds of Maria Manha. The peace and quiet when you check in to one of the nine cabins on the sloping hillside is overwhelming. Construction of the main lodge and the cabins is absorbing. Fine craftsmanship in the joining of the elegant eucalyptus logs in the framework is a pleasure to behold. When you take your ease by the swimming pool, on the sundeck or in the hammock on the porch of your cabin, the views of the surrounding valley and hills and even the distant mountains are stunning. The very friendly folks who run the pousada and the never ending smiles of Adios and Juliana as they show you around the grounds, set out your café de manhá, or prepare a special caldo verde on the evenings when jantar is not available are heartwarming. And at sunset, when the cows are lowing to be milked, the wild green parrots are streaking through the sky, the last hopeful cicadas are easing their chirping in the trees, it's time to lay back in the hammock and watch the million stars of the Milky Way make their appearance. I was expecting a different experience. The reviews I read spoke so well of the place and the pictures are even better. But unfortunately my experience wasn’t so good. From the dusty room which caused my allergies to be horrible, to them not providing towels by the pool, or access to drinking water unless you pay for bottle water , to the owners acting like guests , they won’t help or assist the guests in anyway ( I was told the staff left at 8pm and they won’t attend to me only the staff would and they left for the night), to the noise level from the owners talking on the phone well I was trying to relax and read a book at the pool or the owners talking excessive loud with customers from there other businesses when I was trying to have my meals in the dining room, and of course overcharging me on my food bill which I and you will only discover at check out . If you are looking for a quite and peaceful retreat look else where .. don’t be fooled by the reviews...

Pontos positivos: a pousada é linda, o cafe da manhã é bom, tem frutas, suco natural e ovos.

Pontos negativos: roupa de cama reaproveitada de outros hóspedes, toalhas sujas e ninho de aranha e insetos por todo quarto. A cama e o colchão sao muito velhos e o chuveiro não sai quase água. Explico melhor abaixo:

A cama é velha e geme, o colchão é os travesseiros também são bem velhos, além de muito moles. O lençol é de poliéster, mas estava limpo. O problema maior para mim é que em cima do lençol tinha um edredom que estava imundo, com as bordas encardidas, marrom mesmo. E certamente esse edredom não foi trocado nas últimas sabe se lá quantas hospedagens, porque estava realmente muito sujo. Esse edredom não tinha nem uma capa, era só o edredom sujo mesmo, e o lençol que estava embaixo dele era curto e não tinha como fazer uma dobra na barra que evitasse que você ficasse em contato com aquele edredom reutilizado. E em cima do edredom (sujo) estava as toalhas que deveríamos usar para tomar banho (toalha limpa em superfície suja é toalha suja ne!) E quando peguei a toalha tinha insetos mortos agarrados a ela. Nas suas toalhas. E vários insetos. Então eu fui até a recepção e pedi para trocarem as minhas toalhas, o funcionário disse que ia trocar, mas como eu estava de saída, ela falou que levaria até o quarto depois. Quando chego no quarto: a mesma toalha, com os mesmos insetos grudados.

Ou seja, nem solicitando uma toalha nova, você recebe uma toalha limpa.

O quarto tem teias de aranha por todo lado. Eu entendo que é uma area rural e é muito comum tem insetos, mas eram ninhos enormes! Cheios de coco de aranha e aquilo tudo não era de um ou dois dias, estava sem limpar há semanas! Até o puxador do frigobar (que é tipo uma conchinha) estava cheio de insetos morto. A mesa estava empoeirada. O chuveiro tem água quente, mas a quantidade de água é muito pouca, eu desisti de lavar meu cabelo, porque seria impossível.

Enfim, o lugar é lindo, mas na minha opinião, nenhuma beleza consegue superar o fato de você dormir em uma cama que não está limpa, não conseguir tomar um bom banho e não ter uma toalha limpa para se enxugar. Prefiro ficar...
